Product Description

In the late afternoon sunlight, the Temple Mount in Jerusalem is one of the most breathtaking places in the world. This was the site of Solomon's great Temple, a "house of prayer for all people" - the center of worship and celebration.

For centuries it stood, until the Babylonians captured Jerusalem and destroyed the Jewish temple. The devastation was both physical and spiritual: the Temple was an awesome structure, but it was also the place of the Lord's presence with his people, the place of worship.

About seventy years later, the people returned to Jerusalem and built a second temple. It wasn't as spectacular as the original, and those who remembered Solomon's golden pillars, wept over the difference. Yet it was the house of God to the exiles who came home.

Some 300 years later, Herod the Great, one of the greatest builders in the ancient world, renovated and expanded the second Temple and made it famous, rivaling the finest monuments of that time. This is the temple where Jesus was dedicated as a baby, where he honored the widow for giving all she had, and where he threw out the money changers.

The Temple is important, both as a historical and architectural masterpiece, and as a spiritual symbol of God's desire to dwell with his people.

This full-color book gives a complete easy-to-understand overview of the history of the Temple in Jerusalem. People who enjoy Bible study will love the fact that it answers many questions about how the Temple looked during biblical times. Bible scholars and professors will enjoy the well-annotated text. The author is archaeologist and professor Dr. Randall Price. He has spent more than 30 years exploring the Holy Land studying the Temple.

This book has more than 100 images, charts, diagrams, photos, and illustrations, many of which have never published before. It covers the span of time from Abraham to modern day.

Temple Book

"This book [Rose Guide to the Temple] is carefully researched, using biblical, archaeological and Jewish sources, to produce state-of-the-art reconstructions of the Tabernacle, Solomon and Herod's temples. Beautifully and dramatically illustrated, a great resource for people who are serious about their study of the Bible." - James K. Hoffmeier, PhD, Professor of Old Testament & Near Eastern Archaeology Trinity Evangelical Divinity School

"As former architect of the Temple Mount Excavations, following the 6-Day War, and as one who has, since then, been engaged in intensive Temple research, I highly recommend this book. Its lavish illustrations, which include color maps, diagrams and authoritative reconstructions, coupled with clear verbal descriptions, offer unique insights into the subject of the Temple. Christian leaders and visitors to the Holy Land will find it provides an invaluable overview of the topic from the time of the Tabernacle to the present day." - Dr. Leen Ritmeyer

The Rose Guide to the Temple provides an excellent blend of research of literary sources, archeological evidence, and architectural calculations of the Temple structures. It is based on painstaking research into all the technical details provided by Scripture sources, as well as ancient literary descriptions. Its precision and visual clarity make this Guide into an indispensable source for our knowledge about the ancient Temples. The student of Scripture as well as of religion will learn much from the clear and beautiful presentation of details that cannot be easily visualized when reading Scripture passages. This book also clearly lays out the relation between the few remains of the Temple with reference to the original buildings. This is an absolute must for the modern student and visitor to Jerusalem. - Dr. Emanuel Tov, J.L. Magnes Professor of Bible, Hebrew University of Jerusalem

"It is a real pleasure for me to describe my joy and deep appreciation for The Rose Guide to the Temple by Dr. Randall Price. Lay people and scholars alike will find that the narrative script, the graphics, and the pictures are most scintillating and beautifully carried out throughout the entire book. I have not seen anything that compares to this work of academic responsible research and superb aesthetic taste. Not only does this text cover all periods of history in which the temple was part of those times, but it carefully and irenically explores the question of a future temple in Jerusalem with a fairness to all sides in the debate."
Walter C. Kaiser, Jr., President Emeritus, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary

"In Randall Price's Rose Guide to the Temple, the Bible student is introduced to the fascinating subject of the history of the temple both in Judaism and in its future expectation. Rarely is one book an accurate, beneficial and aesthetically beautiful yet short volume. If you are reading about the temple and its impact on the worship of Israel, this book is absolutely essential. I rejoice in making this volume available here at Southwestern Seminary and encourage you to add it to your personal library."
Paige Patterson, President, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, TX

"This book has more photos, images, time lines, maps, diagrams, and floor plans of ANY book on the Temple I've ever seen. Stunningly beautiful. A must-have for any Bible student or traveler to the Holy Land.""
