Ellen5 Stars Out Of 5Resurrection EggsAugust 26, 2014EllenQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I bought the Resurrection Eggs on the advice of a friend - and so I could tell my granddaughter the story of Jesus and Easter in the way a seven year old could understand. The eggs with objects inside tell a clear story that captured my granddaughter's attention immediately. Although the objects inside also tell the entire truth (the suffering of Jesus represented by a thorn of crowns and a spear), I personally think it is important to tell the whole story the way it happened in scripture. Talking about the suffering in balance with the entire Easter story did not put me or my granddaughter off. In fact, I would tell the story to her using the eggs - and then she, in turn, would tell the story back to me, using the eggs.
I also bought the original story book, The Benjamin Box which correlates with the Resurrection Eggs. It was confusing that the new Resurrection Eggs did not exactly line up with the book. However, we did use each product separately.
I think this product was well-made and worth the price. I actually bought an extra one so that my granddaughter could take her eggs home and I would also have a set at my own home.
Blessed4 Stars Out Of 5EngagingApril 20, 2014BlessedQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3This egg set is colorful and interesting. There is booklet that comes with the set to describe each item in the eggs, gives Bible verses and tells a story about how the object relates to Jesus and Easter. We learn how Christ suffered for us and was victorious over sin and death. There is also a section on leading a child to Christ.
Bible verses are from the English Standard Version.
The sticker sheets are also nice, but you do only get 2. We put them in Easter baskets, but you could also use them to decorate the eggs or your boiled eggs.
I took a star off because the 2014 updated version does not correlate with the Benjamin's Box book that Family Life originally wrote to go with the Resurrection Eggs. The color of the eggs and a couple objects have changed. I would have appreciated the information before I bought it.
maryodeMissouriAge: 25-34Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5A little bit good, but violent and creepyApril 7, 2014maryodeMissouriAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 3Meets Expectations: 2I was really excited to help my kids learn about Jesus' life and the Resurrection using these eggs. But I was disappointed about the fact that a product targeted toward young kids would focus quite so much on the violence Jesus endured. I realize this set is supposed to be targeted toward Easter, but surely we could replace the whip and the spear, for instance, with tokens of Jesus' ministry? Anything??? I think it's important that kids know his death was tragic and painful, but wouldn't the crown of thorns and nails be plenty to teach that? In my opinion, the story of Easter is also about the story of Jesus' life and ministry--his miracles, healing and great love. There would be plenty of symbols we could use to show those (sandals, to talk about washing feet, for instance?), and help our kids understand why so many people loved Him and so many people hated Him (and still do today! I'll be tweaking the set to do so. My kids will eventually learn the details of the torture Jesus underwent, but my 5-year-old today was crying about Jesus even being nailed to a cross (which is bad enough!!!), so I don't think she could handle more. I wouldn't want any sweet child's mind focused too much on torture, frankly.
Also, the pictures in the book are really creepy. They look like cartoonized versions of old icon paintings. I might retype the scriptures and commentary (which is short, and good, but not amazing since so many are focused on violence) so that my kids don't have to see the pictures.
That being said, my kids love the concept, and the quality is good. I will tweak and use these year after year, I'm sure--unless they come out with a gentler version, which I would probably purchase.
The kid contains a donkey, a cup, some coins, praying hands, a stone, a whip, a spear, a rooster, a crown of thorns, a shroud, nails in the shape of a cross and an empty egg.
