I saw myself as the older brother and it gave me the insight to work on being less judgmental. The author does a wonderful job of bring clarity to this issue.

prodigal |ˈprädigəl| adjective
1 spending money or resources freely and recklessly; wastefully extravagant (prodigal habits die hard)
2 having or giving something on a lavish scale (the dessert was crunchy with brown sugar and prodigal with whipped cream) -

This is one of Tim Keller's best books, and one can read it in about two hours! The good news is that God searches for us, and He doesn't demand earthly perfection - simply a heart which acknowledges a need for Him. The book makes an interesting contrast between the elder brother, who follows the law to the point of refusing grace, and the younger brother, who through his initial distaste for the law, becomes humbled to the point that grace is all which can save him. I have bought several copies for gifts.
