"Ready or not, here I come," is the way Lydia E. Harris introduces her wonderful book, Preparing my Heart for Grandparenting.

It's actually a Bible study, but what a study! Whether you have difficulty preparing for the new role as a grandparent, or you are at another stage of the journey, this book is spiritual dynamite. There's enough encouraging scripture in here to propel us beyond our misgivings, worries, our sins such as jealousy of the other grandparents, and take us and our grandchildren to heaven.

For instance, the author uses three Bible translations for James 5:16:

    1. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. (New International Version)

    2. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. (New Living Translation)

    3. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.((New American Standard Bible).

The subject matter of this book goes way beyond spoiling grandchildren.

The first lesson, complete with space for the reader to take notes, focuses on God's view of children; How we should relate to our adult children; Our roles with grandchildren; the need to share grandparenting; and the need sometimes for forgiveness in grandparenting

Lydia Harris and her husband wholeheartedly enjoy being grandparents, and this book expands beyond their opinions. The book is full of little tidbits from other grandpas and grandmas. Even grandchildren of varying ages offer their wisdom about their Nannas and Papas.

I view each section of the book as valuable, but among the top subjects are "Relating to Adult Children and praying for and with your grandchildren. The biblical promises that go with every chapter are a good source for having faith for our grandchildren and many other areas of life.

The chapter on the fruits of the Spirit, necessary for success in every area of life but also valuable in this sometimes challenging role, is wonderfully put together.

    I heartily recommend this book.

More than a self-help book, Grandma Tea, as she is lovingly called by her own grandchildren, has provided a wonderful mix of thought-provoking questions, inspirational guidance, and clear directions from God's word in this fascinating Bible study.

Grandparenting is a holy calling, and the thought and love you put into this sacred role pays off in eternal benefits. Enjoy learning while you complete a very well-rounded study while laying a solid foundation for relationships which will bring glory and honor to God. Each day's lesson sets the tone for learning, gives you some heart work to ponder, encouragement, an opportunity to write out your thoughts and responses to Scripture. Your daily study wraps up with a grand thought and prayer.

And as is common, this study has a lesson for five consecutive days but imagine my joy when I discovered a weekend devotion which complements the lessons I've been studying all week.

I love the fact that I can work my way through these bite-size assignments and journal my feelings and responses to each day's lesson right in the book. As I spend time prayerfully considering my thoughts and commitment to such precious relationships, I know that the journal I'm creating will be a treasure to my daughters and sons one day. Handing over the baton of grandparenting will be even sweeter as they look into my heart through words written years before.

I am so happy to have my own copy and will be pleased to purchase additional copies for my friends as they become grandparents as well. This book is a perfect study to a blessed calling God may have placed on your life.

No matter where you are now, whether anticipating future grandchildren yet to come or living and nurturing others as a seasoned grandparent to many, you'll find delightful insight and encouragement beyond measure. I hope you'll join me and impact future generations with the love and devotion these sweet children need. Thank you, Grandma Tea, for such treasured inspiration!

My husband and I have been so excited about and commited to the whole grandparenting thing that I really didn't think I could be any more inspired, but this book has done just that!! I've been challenged to think intentionally and live purposefully in this new role. Lydia's book brings encouragement, inspiration and a treasure trove of wonderful, creative ideas from grandparents of every stage and circumstance. I had the joy and privilege of joining together with 9 other grandmas to do this study and would highly recommend that. But even if you do it solo, you will benefit greatly and will return to Lydia's book countless times for encouragement and ideas.

I enjoyed reading this book and although I'm not a grandparent--yet, someday I hope to use it for TONS of great ideas on how to interact with grandkids. It's for grandparents with kids of any age who want to make a difference in their grandkids' lives for now and forever. Warm, funny, touching, inspiring, personal.
