While I myself do not have boys, I knew that this book would make an excellent gift for my sister who has two boys. We all desire to raise our children to fear and love the Lord. One of the most excellent ways to accomplish this is to pray for them daily using scripture. While I previewed this book I realized that author, Brooke McGlothlin, has done an amazing job of setting up ways for us to pray for our children. She has provided topics that we may be dealing with in our children's lives and scripture to pray in that area. These topics range from the fruits of the Spirit to common concerns such as wisdom, pride, honor, forgiveness. For example, if you are dealing with the issue of integrity in your child's life you can turn to that chapter and after reading an introduction regarding this issue be presented with a list of scripture. These verses are designed in a way that you can easily insert your child's name while praying for them. You will also be challenged with discussion questions to help you focus on this issue.
After reading parts of this book, I think you could easily make it applicable to both genders, but it does make me curious to look for one geared specifically for girls. I am excited to gift this and see what changes in my nephews lives happen as a result of powerful prayers made on behalf of them.
I received this book as a part of the Bethany House Blogger Review Program. My opinion is my own. -
DanniAge: 25-34Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Praying for BoysJanuary 15, 2014DanniAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3I was excited to read thisbook. Just like Brooke McGlothlin I have two boys of similar ages to her boys. They keep me on my toes as well as on my knees.
I like how the book was structured. Separating all the different areas of prayer into its own chapter. Each chapter had a topic, an experience shared, and my favorite part the scripture references to help you pray. I also enjoyed how each chapter ended with discussion questions.
I do believe this book was meant for group discussion. I don't think all the chapters were deep enough to just to be read on your own. I believe that most of the chapters were meant as jumping off points for discussion between the mothers and or fathers of the boys.
Overall a light read with the opportunity for deep prayer and reflection on raising boys.
I received this book from Bethany House Publishing in exchange for my honest review.
