"What a gift Brooke has given us in this wonderfully practical and urgently needed book. We all want the very best for our sons. We invest so much in growing our boys up right, but we must remember that only our prayer partnership with God can mold their hearts. Brooke teaches us mamas how to fill the most sacred spaces of parenting with powerfully effective prayers."
--Lysa TerKeurst, New York Times bestselling author and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries

Or maybe a grandparent or dad? Do you want to know how to pray better for them? This book is a much needed resource on your book shelf.
I have read Brooke's e-book called Warrior Prayers - Praying the Word for Boys. I love her writing style. Conversational which makes it feel like she's right there with you sharing her heart. She is transparent with her struggles and successes. I like it when authors are real when writing about their own lives.
Praying for Boys: Asking God for the Things They Need Most by Brooke McGlothlin is about praying for the boys in your life, praying specifically for what they they need the most. Some portions of this book come from Warrior Prayers that she wrote back in 2011.
The first part of the book is written for the parent. First it's about Boys Are a Battle Zone. "Our boys need faithful Christian parents now more than ever, and we're failing them. But it doesn't have to be that way. We can choose to rejoin the war for the hearts of our sons...today." Brooke then continues on with the importance of prayer and why it's so important. Also writes about those who are parenting alone, whether as a single mom/day or as a spiritually single parent (they are married but other spouse is not a believer).
She has a section describing how to use this book. Practical ways such as getting a small group together and doing this study. Brooke encourages you and reminds you that "God is for you"
The next part is what boys need the most. There are 21 areas that she goes through. For example the first one is heart change. A Bible verse from Ezekiel 36:26-27 is listed first. It says: 26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. There's a short encouraging post, prayers for heart change, and some discussion questions.
At the end of the book she has suggestions on how to lead a small group. Great ideas to have in your parenting toolbox.
I received this book for free from Bethany House Publishers in return for my honest review.

The author has taken specific concerns that moms have for their boys and designed chapters to address each of them with prayer. Each chapter has the title of a positive trait. It then begins with a thought from a "grown up boy", scripture and thoughts to work towards this trait. It ends with prayers and some discussion or reflection questions.
Each chapter is well laid out and very concise. The author brings her own personal experiences into the book, but has also pulled from other moms and grown men to get a very good feel for specific topics to address. Each chapter resonated with me as a mom. While written by a mom and probably for a mom, it can definitely be used by dads, grandparents, or other people. I also think it can be adapted to work for my daughter. I will definitely be keeping this book and intend to gift it to several of my friends who are pregnant with boys.
I received this book free of charge from Bethany House in exchange for my honest review.

"Praying for Boys" by Brooke McGlothlin really caught my attention by the title alone because I have boys and desire nothing more than to see them become mighty warriors for Christ. Once I got the book (which I received free in exchange for an honest review), and started reading, I was disappointed because the author's boys are way younger than mine. Great. What is she going teach me when she hasn't even gone through the life stages I have? Hence the first dip in the roller coast ride.
By the author's own confession, this book isn't a parenting book. It's a prayer book. Once I got to the end of the first chapter and saw this book for what it really is, my roller coaster soared again. It's intended to show you how to pray for your sons using Scripture and there are verses that you can plug your child's name into every couple of pages. Each list of verses is themed around an area of desire or concern.
Admittedly, the beginning of the book is a bit wordy but stick with it.

Are they constantly pushing buttons and finding your weakness? Do you know there's more, but just don't know where to start?
Raising two boys myself, I know the Lord has more for them, but I don't know how to get there. And in my own weakness, I know I certainly can't get there on my own. But how do I begin praying for them? I know prayer is the answer, but where in the world do I start?
Broken into 21 virtues to pray for your boys, McGlothlin's book works well as a daily prayer guide. Each virtue is clearly defined and illustrated with real life stories and includes 10 scriptures to pray into that specific area. The sections of the book are short and make for a quick morning devotional and I find myself laying the book out through the day to pray scripture over my boys as the day goes.
Included in the back of the book is also a helpful guide for developing your own prayer group whether online or in real life.
Waging war in pray is the most valuable thing we can do for our children. And this book provides useful tools for heading in the right direction. McGlothin's book is one I find myself reaching for again and again, and certainly a powerful director in my parenting journey.

The Phone Tree EdifierAtlanta, GAAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Outstanding!January 19, 2014The Phone Tree EdifierAtlanta, GAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Praying for Boys: Asking God for the Things They Need Most was a spectacular book. The word brilliant also comes to mind. It was just what I needed. In fact, I think it is just what all parents need.
There were so many things that I liked about this book. I adored the conversational tone that the author used. She was funny and she was encouraging at the same time. She didn't have all of the answers, but yet and still, she offered the perfect solution.
I loved that she talked about the peculiar challenges that come with raising boys. I loved that she presented a picture of the dual parent, as well as the single parent family and home life. I loved that she also gave a picture of what a successful parenting model looks like from a Biblical perspective.
She referred to Scripture after Scripture to convey what to pray and how to pray. She gave a step-by-step guide on how to use this book. She provided questions for consideration. She suggested helpful tips on how to insure that mom-time with God did not fall by the wayside.
In a way, she served as the head cheerleader for moms-R-us.
I cannot say enough good things about this title. It was even better than I anticipated.
Mothers, especially busy mothers (and fathers, I dare say), will like this book because it is an easy, functional, practical read that allows one to hit the ground running.
Bookshelf Worthy: Yes
Other/Options: This book needs to be read by mothers and fathers, as well as by extended family and caregivers. It is suitable for all audiences. It would be ideal for a book club. It would be perfect for a church library. It would also be a great resource for a parenting seminar or class.
A complimentary copy of this title was made available to me by the publisher (Bethany House) in exchange for an honest review. The words I have expressed are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.
