IreneUnited States4 Stars Out Of 5March 2, 2011IreneUnited StatesQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4This story Bible is good for preschool age children.
The pictures are delightful and look like watercolor paintings. The faces are easy to see and show different emotions. The scenery is bright and filled with detail.
The stories themselves are based on the Bible. The author paraphrased many of the familiar Bible stories so that they are easier to understand. The shorter stories help hold the attention of young children. The author even has questions you can ask the child as you are reading. These questions help the child be a part of the story.
If you are looking for a gift Bible for a young child this Bible is a good choice.
LINDY GREAVESSouth AfricaAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Good overview of the entire progress of BibleJanuary 18, 2011LINDY GREAVESSouth AfricaAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3This is a good book for those wanting an entire overview of the progress of the Bible from start to end, ie: the Big picture, in a format that children can understand. However it is not at all detailed. If you're wanting detailed stories as in most children's Bibles, you may be disappointed. The quality of the audio was excelllent, and I'd rather purchase this as an item for children to listen to alone than a book to read during our devotional times. If you're wanting shorter stories for younger children, this has plenty of pictures. I gave it a 3 for expectations as I guess I'd expected more detail.
Anne5 Stars Out Of 5Easy to Listen Audio and Wonderful Story BibleDecember 2, 2010AnneQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This past November Crossway published a new edition of The Big Picture Bible with 2 audio cds that give a full reading of the text. I loved the original edition so I was very excited that they were making a new edition that would include audio to accompany it. My girls are 5 and 7 and enjoyed the recording as we listened to it in the car yesterday. The recording is made to read the story Bible while listening so it has a small bell sound after each page to signal the child to turn the page. I think this Story Bible is best for 4-6 year olds. With the audio, it would be a great nap time diversion for children who need to spend some time in their room while younger siblings nap (like mine do). The voice on the audio is very easy to listen to. At times it almost seems a little slow, but if you are reading along, it's a good tempo. We were listening to it without the book last night, so that was why it seemed a little slow with the beeps for turning the pages.
The Story Bible gives children a great view of what the Bible is all about--rather than teaching the stories from the Bible as isolated stories. It really helps children understand that the Bible is all about God's plan.
The other edition is still available on Amazon without the audio, but I'd really recommend getting the edition with the audio for just a few more dollars instead.
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this book from Crossway for review.
Q: Are the CD's available without the book? We already own the book, I'd love to be able to just buy the CDs, any chance they'll be made available? I love to put my kids to bed at night with either some good Christian music or audio to listen to, it sure helps bedtime go smoother.
Unfortunately the CDs are not currenly available separately.
