A Perfect Mess by Lisa Harper is a refreshing look at the Psalms. Harper chooses 13 Psalms that are fairly representative of the different types: laments, praise, royal, etc and covers them in twelve chapters that can easily be read in one sitting. After the chapter are a few insightful questions that will truly encourage readers to make the Psalms personal. I've read other studies of the Psalms, but this one has to be my favorite. Harper is deeply and passionately in love with God and her joy radiates on every page. Her enthusiasm for the study of the Bible and love for God is catchy and readers can't help but want the kind of relationship she has with the Father. Her anecdotes are deeply personal and perfectly suited to each chapter. This is the rare Bible study that will leave the reader smiling and their heart overflowing with love for God.

This book is more than I expected. Well written and insightful. I find myself relating to a lot of what the author is saying. I have only gotten through about three chapters and I don't want to put the book down. I find myself laughing so hard I'm crying. Great book of encouragement for women!!

I liked this book a lot. It was a great devotional. It was funny and had stories, which I loved. Plus, I learned a lot of new things. There were a couple of things I didn't agree with, but in most books that's the case so I didn't let it keep me from enjoying the book overall. If you need something to lift you up and encourage you I would definitely recommend this book, because that's what I used it for. I had been in a pretty bad/down mood one night and nothing seemed to be making me feel any better so I decided to try this book, and I laughed on the first and second pages. My intention was to read a chapter every night, but I pretty much finished it in 3 days, and wasn't wanting it to end. So yeah, good book.

Lisa Harper is an authentic and engaging author who shares her stories of her own shortcomings and God's amazing love in spite of them. I loved this book! It had the perfect blend of humor, relatability and depth.

Lisa Harper is one of my favorite Bible teachers; her theological depth, humor & authenticity help me "get" how the Bible applies to my life today. In this particular book, she shed such fresh insights on the Psalms - a section of scripture I thought I knew pretty well - that I found myself deeply encouraged in ways I hadn't expected. "A Perfect Mess" reminded me of what an amazing gift it is to be adored by God...even on those days I'm not really living in light of my faith.
