    PATTERN for ROMANCE

    By

    Carla Olson Gade

As you enter into Honour's journey on July 31, 1769, you find the sky has opened up and you find Honour in a hail storm, as she is trying to find a place for shelter to get out of the golf ball size hail that is hitting her at full force, she falls to her knees in a puddle of quilt, petticoats--her mitted hands cover her head for protection but the hail keeps coming in furious as if the Devil were after her, as a hand takes her elbow to help her to safety. She looks up and there is the most handsome man she has seen, Mr Sutton to the rescue.

As Honour gets sick Joshua is afraid she may not make it, as he prays to God Mighty Father, please allow her to live. Honour has so much to live for and so much to give. Temperance is her little sister.

It seems Honour wonders why Almighty God speared her life twice--As Honour lost faith long time ago, will see come back to God or take things into her own hands?

will Honour find the love she so wanted and needed or will another woman win him over? Does God have other plans for her.

This book has so many twist and turns and bumps like a country road so you better hang on and keep turning the pages to see what happens next and what surprises is lurking around the next curve for Honour to call out to God for help.

This is a wonderful story. If you love "The Quilts of Love, every Quilt has a Story" then this book is for you. You won't want to miss it. I recommend it highly.

I received this book free from Abingdon Press for an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review just an honest one. The opinions I have expressed are entirely my own and no one else's.

This book was well written and held my interest as I needed to know what was going to happen next in the story. Honour Metcalf seemed to have trouble and challenges follow her wherever she went but she handled them all well. Love is woven throughout the book and I wanted to see who won her heart if anyone. Highly recommend this book and this author as this is her third book.

Historically rich and well researched, PATTERN FOR ROMANCE is a lively, page-turning story peopled with interesting characters and some twists and turns that take you by surprise. The sisters, Temperance and Honour, are delightful - and the hero is appealing from the very start. Not only historically rich but spiritually rich, the novel is truly a faith-filled journey as the characters find their way in a world of change and upheaval along America's road to independence. A very rewarding read!

Not everything in life can be as simple as we want it. Enter the world of Honour Metcalf as she finds a way to make ends meet for her and her sister, Temperance who were orphaned when the ship they were traveling on was attacked by Pirates, killing her parents and brothers. She has a few things remaining from that fateful night, one a quilted workbag that her mother made, and a one piece quilt that protected them both from that night on the ship. All their other belongings were lost or never recovered. She makes her living as a quilter for Mrs. Wadsworth along with her sister in Boston, Massachusetts in 1769.

During a violent hail storm, Honour finds herself transported back to the cannon fire that erupted that night that robbed her of the only family she had known and now is struggling with the noise of the storm. She runs into the street and is immediately pelted by hailstones that threaten her life. Her only savior is that of Joshua Sutton who finds her falling apart in the storm and not knowing quite where she is anymore, When she recovers in the small town church, she learns that Joshua saved her life and is indebted to him in more ways than she'd life to admit. Has this kind gentlemen found his way into her fragile heart?

In the latest novel to find its way into the Quilts of Love Series, Pattern for Romance by author Carla Olson Gade takes a different spin on the pieces and bits that usually make up the novels in their compelling and heartwarming series. She takes the rare look into what is called a whole-cloth quilt that were popularized in France and Italy in the fourteenth-century. These were also the basis for the whole-cloth quilting that was found in early America in the form of bed coverings and quilted clothing such as petticoats, jackets, waistcoats, and robes, and is this such type of quilting that Honour is skilled at doing for Mrs. Wadsworth. However it seems that while love is brewing between Honour and Joshua, both of them are also dealing with their own pain of lost love and wonder if it's truly worth the risk of falling in love all over again.

I received Pattern for Romance by Carla Olson Gade compliments of Abingdon Press and Christian Fiction Blog Alliance for my honest review. I received no monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed in this review are strictly mine alone. For those that love romance added to a wonderful historical backdrop, you will LOVE this one. I personally rate it a 4.5 out of 5 stars and this is my first introduction to author Carla Olson Gade. The rich details that are embedded in this story make it all the more vibrant and give a genuine feel to the story that takes you back into the late 1700's from the way business are managed to the merger way a single woman must find her way to make a living without a family to support her. I will be looking for more books from this author in the future. This is the 9th book in the Quilts of Love Series!

Pattern for Romance is set in the years just before the American revolution, Gade includes fascinating details into every day life including the political tensions of the time. What a great backdrop for romance!

Joshua is smitten quickly and becomes a knight in shining armor during repeated mishaps that befall Honour. Nothing like a protective, caring, gentleman rising to the rescue for hero material. Unfortunately, Honour isn't appreciative all the time as she struggles for independence in more then one difficult situation.

Gade has woven an intriguing plot with a twist of mystery and gentle romance that makes a quick, satisfying read.
