Christine5 Stars Out Of 5February 22, 2006ChristineI found these to be the only true "level one" readers on the market. Others I found used contractions, etc. and even fonts with the capital I looking like lower case l. Other "level one" readers used words that were way over his head, even in kindergarten. I highly recommend this to any family, homeschooling or just wanting to support their child's reading more at home in a constructive way that will not frustrate child or parent (like us).

Manhattan Mom5 Stars Out Of 5Best Phonics readers on the market-great for struggling readersMay 25, 2018Manhattan MomQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 020 years ago, I used this series in my second grade classroom. I loved it! The large print and completely phonics based words are perfect for beginning readers. I also loved that the pictures are black and white. When my own kindergartener started school, I discovered he was considered a "struggling reader." I immediately sought out the series that had helped so many of my students so many years ago. I felt that my child was not getting the phonics base he needed but he was still expected to read well. I have used this program for the entire year. He now reads above grade level, according to the school. My child is starting now reading Storybooks set 5, at the end of kindergarten. I also bought the workbooks and the comprehension workbook for each story set. I donate the readers to the teacher after he's read them! She loves them too. My one complaint is that Storybooks 1 and 2 have a storybook 1A and 2A for extra practice. I wish all levels had the additional books for practice. I would purchase all of them! I have also bought some Abeka readers for extra practice (but they have religious content and can't be donated to a public school). I have also purchased the Mc Ruffy readers (the print is a little small for my guy but he likes the stories) for extra practice. Both are these other series are purely to supplement--I base our progression through phonics on the awesome primary phonics program!

Terri Taylor5 Stars Out Of 5The best phonics readers on the marketJuly 22, 2013Terri TaylorQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Primary Phonics works! Children love the stories! The story line is engaging. The phonics is excellent unlike other series which break the rules, introducing words before the rules are taught.

Pat5 Stars Out Of 5October 25, 2008PatI have used these books to teach children to read for over thirty years. These books contain decodable words which make them easy to read. The stories are interesting and have meaning. I highly recommend these books. Kids love them!
