I love intrigue and suspense and this book has them both! I read the whole book in a couple days even though it is pretty hefty book. Don't let the size scare you away the well written story will carry you from page to page! I liked the characters as they were written like real people, not just people to fill the pages. This author, Kathy Herman, is one to read and you might as well start with this exciting book!
I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

Book Summary: The first in a new series from suspense author Kathy Herman. Set in the beautiful Ozark Mountains. Her Sister Couldn't Be Alive _ Could She? It had to be Riley Jo. She was certain. . .wasn't she? But when Abby Cummings tells her mother she thought she saw her sister at the store, her mother quickly dismisses the idea. After all, Riley Jo and their father had been missing for years. Presumably dead. Yet Abby cannot ignore her intuition. Telling her friend J. D., they investigate. But J. Review: I found this book to be very exciting. The characters were believable along with the story line. I liked the theme and the twists and turns throughout the book. It was a tragic story from the start. I liked how Abby had a nose to the grindstone mentality to finding her family. She was quick thinking for the most part and was a very determined young woman. I do not normally read stories where the main character is under 20. But this mystery was gripping and the development of the entire area, people and storyline was enough to draw me in deeply.
I would like to thank Net Galley and David C Cook for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone.

KavRCanadaGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Page Turning SuspenseOctober 5, 2013KavRCanadaGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is a multi-faceted book riddled with tension and suspense. One of the most captivating aspects of the story is the way the author tells it mostly from two contrasting points of view -- Abby's and her mother, Kate's. It's fascinating to see how mother and daughter cope with their loss and grief in such completely opposite ways. They are often at odds and the friction between the two brings an added tension to an already taut plot. Unexpected twists and turns and one (for me) HUGE aha moment left me reeling. This is definitely a page turner.
Herman is a gifted storyteller and she brings the Cummings family to life in a memorable way. I'm thrilled to say this is the first in her Ozark Mountain Trilogy, so we'll get to see more of them in books to come. A must read for people who like a page-turning suspense lightly laced with a sweet romance.

The little girl she spotted outside a store in Foggy Ridge had to be Riley Jo, her long-lost sister. Abby Cummings is certain. Almost. But her family has had their hopes dashed before and quickly dismisses the idea. After all, her father and sister have been missing for five years, and are presumed dead.
Abby refuses to ignore her intuition. She and her best friend, Jay, team up to track down the child in the face of scorn and doubt from all sides. But warnings from a mysterious stranger hint at a darker story, one that might not end well unless they leave it alone.
Abby and Jay know too much to turn back, but too little to uncover the truth of what really happened. The only weapon they have is blind faith...is it enough?
The story is very well presented by Herman, as it can be difficult to write about missing people and the subsequent search for them. She drew me into the story and put me right in the middle of the action, emotion and drama. It made me feel as if I was personally responsible for finding Riley Jo and Mr. Cummings. The mysterious elements of the story really kept my attention, and I just had to know how the story ended. The characters were easy to identify with and very well developed.
My absolute favorite element in this story was the focus on faith. Abby faces so much uncertainty with the loss of her father and sister, and the questions that gnaw at her about their fate would be enough to break down even the strongest of people. When the death of a family member happens, it's hard. But harder yet is knowing that they simply vanished into thin air, never to return. Abby's faith and friendship with Jay are the only things that keep her going, and Herman clearly writes her character as someone who isn't perfect, but has faith in the One we should all put our trust in.
