Anne5 Stars Out Of 5July 12, 2010AnneBefore I begin, I think this is a Bible for Families, Not for Kids to read on their own. The size of the font is very small and I think it would be very difficult for most 6-8 year olds to read. I do like this Bible for families because of the features of this Bible. If I were simply choosing a Bible to read as a family, without concern about which translation it is (because my family doesn't normally read the NLT), then I would definitely choose this one. I really liked the activities and ideas of how to convey different ideas to your kids. I would say that this Bible is good for families with children ages 5-12. This is a very contemporary take on how to connect kids to the Bible and more importantly God yet also understand the time in which the people in the Bible lived. The language of the notes and extras may be more casual than a lot of homeschooling families use at home, though, like ours. We don't really use words like "duh" like I read in one of the notes. This Bible is one of those books that I think would be wonderful for a lot of families. I think you'd really enjoy it and get a lot out of the extras--they would help build memories and start discussions. If you're looking for a Bible to give a family with new believers or with young children as an outreach, I think this is a great Bible to give! I'd give it 4.5 stars just because it is marketed for kids (many of whom this age I think would have a hard time reading it themselves) rather than to families. I wish the font size was bigger--then I'd give it 5 stars. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this Bible from Tyndale Publishing for review.

I gave to my two granddaughters, age 8, and they loved the idea that they could write in it, makes notes, underline, or do crafts recommended. They have since highlighted the verses they have memorized! I may purchase one for myself as the activities are great accompanment to Sunday School lessons! -
CharleneWashington StateAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5August 6, 2010CharleneWashington StateAge: 45-54Gender: femaleI love this Bible! This is the best family/kids oriented Bible I have ever seen, and as a youth leader, I have assessed plenty of "child-friendly" Bibles. There are so many things to love about this Bible. First off, this isn't your typical, "Here, kid, carry this to church on Sunday" Bible. This Bible provides families with do-together activities that bring scripture alive. There are science experiments, crafts, snacks, and journaling activities. As a teacher and a youth leader I highly approve. These are lessons like the ones I taught in Sidewalk Sunday School. this Bible will help the kids experience the how and the why of living life God's way.
