New Hope, DVD
would've been a good film, except for one big flaw
this film covers several important topics for families and teens, as well as one topic that goes deeper than the average person's experience: suicide.... it is excellently produced, directed and acted.... it's biggest flaw is that it presents what might be called 'missionary dating' in a very positive light, seemingly encouraging any youth who have a commitment to Christ to follow that path. it shows the couple in question living happily ever after, but does not show the torment that the Bible calls 'being unequally yoked' can and will cause both people in such a relation....other themes covered are: sexual integrity, loving your enemies with perseverance, lifestyle evangelism, and as mentioned, the range of emotions that people must deal with after a loved one's suicide. there is an extra presentation by one actor encouraging people to call a phone # or look on a website if they are depressed....it shows some unflinching temptations and pressures placed on a main character who is the 'pk', pastor's kid (young man, he is 18 yrs. old), and his various responses, some good, some not so good. his poor responses get him in trouble and his integrity keeps him. but he tempts fate too much and i firmly believe that the end of his story would not be the positive outcome presented at the end (based on my life experience in the Church community over 25+ years). make your purchase based on these facts and ( with all due respect to the other reviewers opinions-really) don't be too misled by some of the great ratings...PG for adult situations and mild violence... no bad language, rude humor, nudity... but intimate situations are presented.

Such a totally Christian, yet entertaining movie!
An excellent story -- fast moving, some expected, some unexpected scenes. I so love it when the Christian character stands and doesn't give in to the temptations of the devil!

I watched it as a family movie instead of just with the kiddos 12+. My two younger kids didn't understand certain parts of the movie, but that was ok & good. I am glad it ended the way it did.

Highly recommended! Good movie for discussion!
I love this movie! It's about staying constant when we want to give in. Standing firm in our faith, going after souls and not giving up, and being who God made us even in the face of constant temptation and trial! I'm a youth pastor so I see teen's constant struggles. Teens need Godly movies that are about real issues and how to deal with these issues in a Godly way or else they will learn them the worldly way. Most of my teens deal with persecution and hostile people like Lucas all the time at school and work. There was NO sex though the temptation was there,(which teens face everyday and everywhere they look) there was a few small kissing scenes , (no making out) and there is a scene with a condom.(No nudity) One party scene with beer bottles. God said He sends us out as sheep among wolves. But we are not to be conformed to this world. I found this movie to be very real, refreshing, and the ending is beautiful! Highly recommended!! I also recommend, The Grace Card.
********Caution Spoiler alert for Parents!***************
We all know that God doesn't want us to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. Mike(A Christian) dates a girl who doesn't know Jesus. They keep it holy the whole movie. I whole heartily teach the word of God and discourage all Christians to date nonbelievers, in the end of this movie she gets saved and later they get married.
As far as the condom scene goes- There is NO nudity. While they are star gazing one night, The non-believing girlfriend offers Mike(Christian) a condom but he does the right thing. He tells her No, he would never treat her an anyway that he wouldn't want his wife to be treated. Then he blows up the condom and it flies away. And they continue to look at the stars.
Mike is constantly taunted and pushed around, even punched in the face by Lucas but he(Mike) never hits him back or says anything unGodly. They end up being best friends in the end.
There is a scene with teens drinking. Mike is offered a beer but he says No.
