P.S. I loaned this book to my pastor; he and his wife were very impressed, with how Dr. Jeremiah explained the nativity questions.

Why the Angels? Why Bethlehem? Why Mary? Why the Star of Bethlehem? "Why the Nativity?" is a nice informative book. I say "nice" in that it's full of Biblical facts yet its tone is one of effortlessness. Each chapter ends with discussion questions for anyone who wants to go the extra mile. (I didn't, but it's there if you're so inclined.) The book paints a colorful picture of Bethlehem at the time in which Jesus was born. It helped me see the event more clearly. I'll even go as far as to say that some Biblical things "clicked" with me for the first time. And, I love that with scripture -- when things just suddenly stand out -- as if it's the first time you've read it.) I personally liked the chapter regarding the Star of Bethlehem the most. It included some astronomy which I like and was similar to a movie I saw several years back at the New York Planetarium in which they mentioned a bright constellation occurring in 7 B.C. Here as well, I read about the year in which Jupiter and Saturn were aligned (in 7 B.C.) to create a bright "star" and that Jupiter was considered a star of "royal" status; something the Magi would have known. Little particulars like that I found interesting.

I enjoyed this book. It was a good way to daily reflect on the Advent of Christ to prepare my heart for Christmas.

This is a very informative book that is easy to read and to apply to life. Dr. Jeremiah explains and answers questions about the Christmas story. In doing so he also allows the reader to discover more insight as they comb the scriptures. This book is great for personal devotions and would be good for a small group Bible study as well.
