When writing a review for a Bible it is much different than a book, a book review is almost exclusively for content, a Bible however is the opposite almost exclusively for binding and not content for no man can critique God's Word !

It is often difficult to give a proper assesment of a Bible because each of us has our "list" of "must have" for our Bibles, and just like flavour thos are personal preferences.

So in fairness to this review and it's publishers here is my best shot at an unbiased opinion.

This Bible has fantastic proportion for a wide variety of users, 1)Preachers, the font is crisp and dark even the red letters so often lamentably light in inexpensive red-letter editions, it is double column verse by verse, it has very well layed out paragraph headings bold enough to use not too bold to distract, end of verse references sparingly again not to distract, literal renderings at the bottom but again sparingly not like most NAS Bibles with so many.2)Tired eyes, Again bold crisp well spaced words and lines.

    3) Students, great colour maps with the often missing "Kingdoms", Concordance, even a table of weights/measures often missing great in helping the literal renderings in the NAS , shekel, cubit etc...italics for the missing words from original MSS 4) Personal use/Readers, great handy size (for me perfect size!) able to carry anywhere, most Bibles it's size are thin this one has a nice thick dimension making it proportions aesthetically appealing yet not too thick or heavy even for small hands. Nice brown and gold stylized personal pages at the front.

5)Traditionalist/Modern for those who love the older versions this includes Thee/Thou... for prayerd to God such as in Daniel,Our Father and especially pleasant in the Psalms, the renderings of words being from 1977 are closer to KJV such as "lovingkindness" rather than the clinical sounding "Steadfast love" of newer versions. The renderings are modern enough however for all to understand in 2011 common parlance. Even using numbers "25000" rather than the KJV twenty an five thousand, This is a great reading , preaching daily use , study, gift, long time use, devotional, even if you like marking Bible (well spaced lines for underlining and a small margin all around.

Paper is typical Bible paper but feels a little thicker than most in its price point and much better than the loathsome paper used in Nelsons signature series, font and print excellent, binding is sewn! It even has the overstitching around Genesis 5 down th whole page margin for that oldstyle sewing to maximze the spine durability, something usually only found on 100+ dollar Bibles! My copy has a slight crinkle down the margin which gives the "crackle" sound when turning but it is very minimal other Bible like the NAS In Touch is much more prominent and it is a sign of tigh sewing.

Oh yes almost forgot lies flat at Genesis 1 !

Lastly the cover obviously Bonded leather is cheap and ugly regardless what anyone says, and this may hinder the lying flat from Genesis to Revelation.

You may ask how does mine lay flat then. Well this would be the only flaw I can see with this binding the cover, but whose to complain at under 20$ !!! Well do like I did purchase the Bible and have it sent to a rebinder! choose any leather, colour, ribbons, stamping you want! Rather than the cookie cutter approach of buying one expensive premade like everyone elses, wish I had a picture for you mine is matte black butter soft natural goatskin, Gold stamped 3 ribbons.

If you want a decent Bible that will last with nice layout, helps, in a legible style, in a good reliable translation you can do no wrong. AMG unlike others is a good publisher with ministry and evangelism at heart.

I have purchased three of these Bibles. Two in burgundy and one in black. I gave two away as gifts and kept one for myself. This is my absolute favorite of all my Bibles. The font is a wonderful size (11point) and style. It has a double column verse by verse layout which has an old fashioned feel that I love. Each book begins with a nice introduction that I have found very useful. They give a nice backstory and history that aides understanding in my opinion. This Bible is a little thicker than my others Bibles but not awkward in anyway. The NASB is my favorite translation which is more modern than the KJV but still retains a scholarly feel unlike some of the newer versions that have kind of dumbed down the english language. This is my go to Bible and I highly recommend it to everyone. This one deserves to be used!

This Bible is medium sized with a large clear print. The red letters are close to burgundy which is good for me. The red is not bright & doesn't hurt my eyes.

I enjoy this translation because it's a fantastic combination of old language and modern language. You get the dignity of the old language with the clarity of modern language. It doesn't sound informal or irreverent. At the same time you won't get stuck on archaic words. It's the best of both worlds. Plus it's a literal word for word translation, which means it's trustworthy. What's not to love?

Dear reader, this bible is well made and has the most intelligent layout and subheadings of any bible on the market regardless of price. The print is 11 point but the interlinear space as well as the space between words is so generous that it reads like a much bigger font. It is also a verse by verse bible which brings delight to my KJV mind. All of this costs for less than $30. That is why I purchased two from christianbook.com. The NASB reads easily and is a joy to read. I use it as a companion bible for my primary bible which is a KJV. The KJV is as rigorous as a college course in physics, and sometimes it is nice to take a break from it. However, I always come back to it. The reason I come back to it is because I can't find anything better. No other bible has the same accuracy. The NKJV comes acceptably close and that is what my wife Peggy and I read together. She just can't read the KJV. She truly tried. That is why we have so many modern language bibles. They fill an important need. I would be able to feed off of any of them if I could not have the KJV or the NKJV. It is just that it is not the most nutritious food.

The KJV is a bible that will correct you. The other bibles including this beautiful NASB is a bible that you will have to correct. Unless you know the KJV you will not be able to know what I am talking about. The KJV, NKJV and the MEV are based on the Textus Receptus. The modern versions including this delightful NASB bible are based on the Alexandrian texts. The bibles have their roots in different soils and you will be drinking water from different wells depending on which version you are reading. The NASB and the other modern versions, have missing verses, partial verses and downright corrupt verses. If you know the KJV you can spot these and make note and move on. Here is an analogy, the NASB and the modern version are like a good apple that has some blemishes and some rotten spots. I have eaten such an apple and enjoyed it, but I first cut out the rotten spots with a knife. No need to waste a good apple.

Most readers of the bible don't know what I am talking about. To them I say this wonderful NASB bible is a good choice for you because of its readability. The HOLY SPIRIT will use it to transform you, and that is true of the weakest version of the bible we have. This is a big fat bible. I like big fat bibles and I tell no lie. It is understood that differences exist in the greek new testament based on what text they are translated from, but what surprised me were the differences in the Old Testament. All the versions are based on the Masoretic Text, so how is this even possible? The bible is a book that wall feed you, guide you, delight you, correct you and make you think. It is a joyous feast for the soul.

The paper is thin and my Zebra highlighters tend to bleed through. The text is not line matched which is a bummer, but it is a visual delight to the eyes the way it was laid out. The editor that did this should get the Nobel prize in literature layout, or at least a pat on the back. AMG also does a KJV version that is inexpensive, but of the highest quality. Why was not the same layout used there as on the NASB version? If it was, I would buy 10 of them.

The people at christianbook.com are great people. They truly try to serve the christian community; and I like to support them. They are a great company. They are polite, helpful and will do right by you.

I just received mine yesterday,(7-1-2013). I am VERY impressed!! It is even better bound that I had anticipated. The bonded leather actually looks & feels like real leather,& it feels very nice in your hand! Binding is thick & very durable. I had my name imprinted on this & it looks absolutely wonderful! When I was a boy of 8 years old,I was given a '77 NASB Bible as a gift from a member of the congregation of the Church that I attended throughout my childhood. I cherished that Bible,& then one day it just simply disappeared. I am VERY happy to have found this version once again after all these years!! It was new back in '77 when I was given this edition as a gift. I am very pleased to see the great quality put into this Bible as well. It IS 'Smyth-Sewn',& very well made! It is hefty in your hand as far as weight is concerned, but to me that is just another assurance of the quality that has gone into this! I enjoy that 11 point type as well. This Bible is just a great pleasure all the way around! It also lays nice & flat right out of the box! The maps in the back are very thorough,& in full color as well. Over all,if you are searching for the REAL NASB translation, your search has ended with this one!! I thank both the living God, & CBD for bringing this wonderful treasure to my attention, & for having this available! God Bless All.
