Pam BurkePotosi, MOAge: 55-65Gender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5A Good Teen Amish StoryFebruary 23, 2014Pam BurkePotosi, MOAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleMy Amish Boyfriend by Melody Carlson is a charming Amish story, enjoyable by any age reader but particularly geared toward a teen audience.
Shannon, the main character, seems like a typical teenager who gets thrown into situations that are anything but typical. Watching her struggle and grow through a summer unlike anything she would ever have imagined provides an interesting story. The book is written in a way that makes Shannon and many of the other characters come alive and draws you into their stories.
Fans of Amish fiction, as well as readers with no previous interest in the genre, should enjoy following this roller-coaster ride of a sixteen-year-old English girl in "Amishland."
Thanks to Revell Publishers for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. -

"My Amish Boyfriend" is not just another Amish tale of a simple life but a tale of struggles, hardship, decisions, faith and so much more. This story has so much to offer not just teens, and young readers, but adults as well. It shows us so much and once again Ms. Carlson has written a story of faith, family, friendship, with spiritual truths and the struggles teens are faced with on a daily basis. It was interesting to watch as Shannon matures and grows not only in her faith, but in her desires also. A quick read! Well done, Ms. Carlson! Received for an honest review from the publisher.

Cindy Loven4 Stars Out Of 5Great conceptsFebruary 18, 2014Cindy LovenI thought this book has some interesting concepts. A family member meeting an Amish family she never knew existed. A young daughter trying to take care of an ailing mother on her own, and fighting as an advocate to improve her mother's health. All very good concepts. I enjoyed the story, the struggle that Shannon faced as she tried to come to terms with whether she could fit into the Amish faith, or if her English faith was what would sustain her. Pros of the story, great writing, as usual from Melody, Shannon was someone you wanted to be friends with, even though she was a bit confused about several things. Cons of the story, way too much passion and a bit too racy in some parts. The romance was a bit fast for a YA story. Over all, a great book 4 stars from this reviewer. Melissa4 Stars Out Of 5Amish read for your teenFebruary 16, 2014MelissaQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3This book is for that teen in your life who enjoys reading.
I enjoyed the dynamic between Shannon and her mom. Shannon really cares about her sick mother and has taken on the responsibility of taking care of her. As summer comes around a neighbor arranges for Shannon and her mom to go visit family. Little does Shannon know, her family is Amish.
As we move into "Amishland", as Shannon calls it, we watch Shannon get to know grandparents, aunts and uncles she's never met. She has a rough time adjusting to the Amish way of life and has a couple of embarrassing episodes with her Grandfather.
Then she meets Ezra. I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the way this relationship started. Shannon almost immediately thinks she's in love him and in less than twenty-four hours they are having a major kissing session and Shannon is thinking about becoming Amish. I expected to Ezra have more restraint but he didn't seem to care.
Now, I do realize sixteen-year-old girls can be fickle but it seemed a bit rushed for me, especially considering this is Christian fiction.
But that's my only negative. Like I said, I really enjoyed the part of the story about Shannon adjusting to her family and dealing with her mom.

My Amish Boyfriend by Melody Carlson

Cousins are a great thing!- and so is your (unknown to Shannon) Cousin's "ex".
Shannon is caring for her dying Mother, when a neighbor arranges for them to go to her estranged Mother's family.
Not only was Mom raised Amish, her Uncle's a Minister!
She is discovered by her Cousin's "ex" and all is looking much ...better to Shannon.
But not to her older cousin, who's crying in the dark of their shared room.
Despite stolen romance, and a deepening friendship with Mr. Cute Amish, Shannon sees the clues, figures out its "greatest love" for her new boyfriend, whom she'd like to marry, and her Cousin.
Shannon the healer of familial relationships, her Mom's health, and the True Lovers protests are ignored as they charge away from the gift of True Love, until all is made well and round.
Shannon has the gift of being warm and simply telling the truth so that others can hear their own hearts thoughts and true voice.
Shannon's good returns to her and it is well.
A good book to explore the attractions of the Mind, Spirit, and Heart.
