When 16 year old Shannon McNamara's mother becomes ill her summer plans take a drastic turn. Shannon is a born and breed city girl but circumstances force her to spend the summer with her Amish grandparents she didn't know she had. Too her surprise Shannon takes to the simple life of the Amish. Life gets even better when she meets Ezra the handsome boy next door. He was raised Amish and is trying to figure out if he will be baptized or move on as an Englisher. Read this great book to see if Shannon and Ezra can make a go out of it. I enjoyed watching her grow and mature as she worked hard at being Amish and feel in love. I highly recommend this book and promise you will not be disappointed by it.
I did not realize when I got this book it was Teen Fiction. Although this book can be found in the teen section it can be read and enjoyed by all lovers of Amish Fiction, by teens and adults alike. I found it very well written and really enjoyed My Amish Boyfriend. I give this book 4 stars. It is full of twists and turns, faith and family dynamics.
I want to thank the author Melody Carlson and publisher Revell for bringing good clean Christian books like this one to readers like me. I was provided with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. -
MargotSouth AustraliaAge: 45-54Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Glad I Read To The End.July 16, 2014MargotSouth AustraliaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3This review was written for My Amish Boyfriend: A Novel - eBook.Melody Carlson really had me worried for a while there, but I'm glad I stuck at it till the finish. I'm certainly not part of the 'target audience' and I'm sure young teenage girls would have enjoyed this book. I found the first person approach a little daunting, but younger readers might see it as reading a series of journal entries or blogs. I was disappointed to see the main character in compromising situations at the tender age of 16, but relieved when she realized how wrong it all was. Some parts of the story seemed a bit far fetched and a bit too easy, but given the target audience, perhaps this is appropriate. I still enjoyed this nice easy read.

Shannon McNamara is 16 and has plans for her summer break. However, her plans are suddenly changed when she is informed that she will be taking a bus with her ill mother to her grandparents home in Hochstetler, Ohio. Grandparents that up to this moment she never knew anything about. On top of that information, she learns that they are Amish and her mother was raised Amish but left years ago. Stunned, Shannon prepares for the long trip making sure she packs to keep her mother as comfortable as she can on the bus.
Shannon finds things at her grandparents home strained, not realizing that when her mother left she was shunned. Not long after arriving, she meets a neighbor Amish boy, Ezra Troyer and soon has a crush on him. In fact, she thinks she is in love with him. They both are struggling with where they belong and what they are to do with the rest of their lives. Ezra has plans to leave and Shannon is seriously thinking of joining the Amish community.
It is soon apparent that Shanon's mother is more ill than they first thought. She takes her to a local doctor who feels her mother has been misdiagnosed and runs tests on her. These test show some scary results and Shannon has to make some very grown-up decisions.
The relationship between Shannon and Ezra seems to move a little too fast. Other teen issues are addressed in the story: courtship and dating, relationships, love and faith.

sally893 Stars Out Of 5disappointedMarch 16, 2014sally89Quality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 2This review was written for My Amish Boyfriend: A Novel - eBook.I have really liked Melody Carlson's other Amish fiction books. So I was looking forward to this book. The writing was fine. But, I did not like the character Ezra. He seemed selfish and really into kissing. I just didn't like him. I read half the book and then gave up and went and read the last chapter.
This book was not as good as her other Amish books. -
wfnrenSt Cloud, FLAge: 55-65Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5A nice inspiring bookMarch 7, 2014wfnrenSt Cloud, FLAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3Sixteen-year old Shannon McNamara has her summer all planned, getting her license, getting a job and best of all, getting a tattoo! Shannon has been taking care of her Mother who has been diagnosed with Meniere's Disease and unable to work. On the last day of school she comes home and her neighbor, who watches Anna, Shannon's mother, during the day informs Shannon that she has family in Ohio and they will be going there for the summer. The two arrive in Ohio and while they are waiting on a bench for an uncle she didn't even know she had, she thinks she has traveled back in time, to the horse and buggy days, then it dawns on her that those are Amish buggy's. She is really surprised when a man in a horse and buggy pull up and ask if she is Anna, her mother had been Amish????? Shannon's Uncle Ben helps her get her mother into the buggy and takes them to her Mammi and Dawdi's home, she also didn't know she had grandparents, she didn't know she had ANY family, only her mother.
On her first full day there Shannon meets Ezra Troyer when she falls flat on her face while mowing the grass. Ezra becomes her Amish boyfriend, they fall in love at first sight. Ezra wants to leave the Amish and Shannon wants to become Amish.
I wasn't pleased with where the story line was leading with Shannon and Ezra but I will say that by the end of the book I was happy with their relationship and yes was even brought to tears for a while. Shannon really is a strong girl for being 16 and having to take care of her mother, moving and having to endure a completely different lifestyle even when her mother continues to get worse she sees things through. Shannon was a believer in God but in the last year she had started running from him, can she find him again to help her through all of this?
A nice quick read that you don't want to give up on because you will maybe find a little more faith in yourself. I was really impressed with how Shannon stepped right up and took control when she needed to and her willingness to try to learn more about the lifestyle and beliefs of her Amish family.
