GrandaddyAAge: Over 65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Right Decision to Save the Jumper?January 8, 2017GrandaddyAAge: Over 65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for #2: Murder Comes by Mail. The second book in A.H. Gabharts Hidden Springs Mystery series is every bit as good as the first. Most of the key characters return for another challenging mystery. Several new characters are introduced. The action is fast-paced and exciting, beginning with Deputy Sheriff Michael Keane rescuing a man from jumping off a bridge into the muddy water of the Eagle River far below. The local newspaperman shows up as usual snapping pictures indiscriminately and asking numerous questions. He is still seeking his big story. The events ramp up rapidly and soon there are multiple murders with the evidence pointing to the man Michael saved. Although an Eagleton detective has claimed jurisdiction and tells Michael to leave it alone, the case seems to be chasing him. Its like he wants to get away from it but someone is determined to pull him in deeper. And Michael grows concerned that the women who are closest to him may be in the mans sights. Have you ever had a problem you wanted to distance yourself from but circumstances just wouldnt let you? Thats where Michael found himself. Even though there were several murder victims discovered, the story included enough humorous moments, a smattering of romance, and various other distractions to keep it from being too heavy. Readers of mystery will particularly enjoy the story as you try to figure out who is behind the evil deeds and how the perpetrator is able to remain undiscovered in a small town like Hidden Springs where everyone knows everyone elses business. I particularly appreciate being able to read a good mystery that does not have vulgar language and gratuitous sex. I recommend the book. Guys who enjoy mystery will enjoy this one since romance is low-key.

Written in the man's point of view, it is different than most cozy mysteries, but Oh, I love Michael. I do. I fell in love with him in book one Murder at the Court House and fell deeper in love with him in MURDER COMES BY MAIL.
Michael is a kind, considerate soul, willing to go above and beyond for his aunt, so on his day off, when he'd much rather be fishing, he agreed to take the church ladies to a play thats sounded rather questionable and even had the ladies arguing. When he got to the bridge leading out of town, there was a man getting ready to jump. Maybe. Actually, the man seemed rather indecisive until the photographers arrived and then he was bound and determined to jump, but Michael grabbed him and saved his life.
The man thanks him by saying "You'll wish you let me jump..." and sure enough, within days the murders start, pictures of dead females arriving at the sheriff's office, or at the newspaper, or hand delivered to the editor's daughter.... The town is panicking, and Michael is beginning to regret saving the man... Except nothing seems to fit!
Since most of the murders happen in another town, another sheriff's department is handling the investigation, and Michael tries to help them out, but the doctor who treated the jumper keeps calling Michael wanting to talk. He won't talk to the sheriff's office handling the case. And that doctor is creepy! This is not a book you want to read at bedtime. It will keep you awake nights. But oh, I do love Michael, and cannot wait for A H Gabhart's next cozy mystery with Michael. Hopefully soon! -

Gabhart), I was eager to read it. MURDER COMES BY MAIL is the second in the series but the first I've read. I was expecting the setting to be a small town with somewhat quirky characters and I was not disappointed. What kind of surprised me was the complexity of the mystery. It almost had a psychological thriller aspect to it. The main character, Michael, the deputy sheriff, saves a man from jumping off a bridge and is thrust into the unwanted role of hero. It is also the beginning of his involvement (also unwanted) in some bizarre murders. The murderer photographs his female victims and sends the photos to Michael. The case is being investigated by a police detective from the closest city, Eagleton. Michael would like to leave it to Det. Whitt, but things keep happening to draw him into the case, even being accused of the murders. If you are looking for a good mystery that isn't easy to solve, read MURDER COMES BY MAIL.

AnnelrBrighton, MIAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Great Cozy MysteryMay 31, 2023AnnelrBrighton, MIAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for #2: Murder Comes by Mail.Having read the first book in the Hidden Springs Mystery series by A. H. Gabhart, I was looking forward to Murder Comes by Mail. I was not disappointed by this charming cozy mystery. The Deputy Sheriff is quite the humble hero who, in doing a good turn, has found himself in the middle of several murder mysteries. I enjoy a small town setting where everyone knows everyone else's business and rumors abound. The scenes were quite realistic and sent a few shivers up my spine at times! With some quirky characters, several dead bodies, and a bit of a romance, readers who enjoy cozy mysteries can't ask for much more. It took me quite a bit to figure out the murderer and there were a few twists to the plot that kept my interest. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. It's always fun to see how the characters develop and how they get themselves out of mishaps. The audiobook is read by the author and I enjoyed that...an author knows just how to speak the essence of her characters. I listened to a complimentary copy of the audiobook and was not required to write a positive review.
