Heard a review about this book from KCBI radio station in Dallas. My family has faced most of these same situations and I believe the author speaks truth. I love the hope this message inspires. Bought two for my daughters.

This book is about being honest with yourself about your sins and your life and how when you do that, your life is better and how Jesus died for our sins so once he has forgiven us there is no need to shame yourself because the past is in the past.

I like how the book after each chapter has questions to think about what you just read. One question says " How would you characterize your church? Is it a hospital for broken people or a showroom for polished pretenders? I would say my Kingdom Hall is for people who pretend a lot about their life and struggle with being honest. How would you say your core group of Christian friends is more likely to engage in the pretender game or come clean about struggles they are experiencing? I would say in this case come clean about struggles they maybe facing. Think about your average day and take a quick inventory of some of your behaviors that could be labeled as people pleasing. Write down examples that come to mind. Mine is always saying yes to people even when I don't want to do something. I just can't say no. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being very important, how important is it for you to have others approval? Why do you think that is? I would say a 10. I care alot about what people say about me and think about me, I guess I just need peoples approval in my life.

All in all I enjoyed this book and read it all in one afternoon just lying in bed.

I will admit that it took me quite a few chapters to embrace this book. It just didnt speak to me for a while. I felt like the writer was talking to an audience with HUGE hidden secrets, or extreme struggles with shame. I also did not relate to her 20 years of church experience where she was made to feel like it was a big faade, she was not embraced warmly, but was treated like she was unworthy and unable to make the cut. She certainly did not experience openness and honesty in any circles. I am thankful that this has not been my ENTIRE experience like it was for her.

It did take a while for me to feel like this book was speaking to me, but in the end I really appreciated her thoughts and will take some important messages away from her writing.

I really appreciated her writing about the difference between living as a sinner saved by grace, vs someone who has been made clean by Jesus and is now one of his Saints. When I consider this mentality, it changes me. Instead of constantly perceiving myself as a sinner, and falling back into that low expectations- I feel challenged to live as the Saint I have been made to be. It motivates me in a completely new way. When I let myself be completely overwhelmed by what Christ has done, I want to live up to my new identity. With the same power Christ used to overcome the grave, I can overcome sins that are entangling me.
