Product Description

In Loving Your Wife As Christ Loves the Church McCall, the author of Walking Like Jesus Did, delivers a powerful message for men who did not grow up with dads who were good role models, or for men who need to be reminded that Christ is the perfect husband to His bride, the church.

In his typical crisp, biblical style, he lays out practical, biblical descriptions of various aspects of love - love that is practical, protecting, purposeful, passionate, praying, purifying, pardoning, and persevering. Every chapter concludes with discussion questions and action steps that make the book perfect for one-on-one mentoring, small-group discussion, or for personal thoughtful reflection. Foreword by Tedd Tripp

Tell us a little about yourself.  I've had the joy of being a pastor at Christ's Covenant Church of Winona Lake, IN since 1981. I find great joy in preaching and teaching God's powerful Word to His precious people. I've been married to my high school sweetheart, Gladine, since 1975. We have three married children and also greatly enjoy being grandparents.

What was your motivation behind this project?  Every married couple struggles, including my wife and I, and I know why. My wife married a sinner (and so did I). As a pastor for nearly 30 years, I've seen other couples struggling, too. Especially on my heart have been the men--the husbands--who really do want to be good husbands, but feel that they have lacked good role models to show them the "how" of husbanding. This book is offered as help to those men who really do want to grow in loving their wives.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  My prayerful desire for the men who read "Loving Your Wife as Christ Loves the Church" is that they will find that they do have a role model for loving their wives--a Perfect Role Model. He is none other than the Lord Jesus, the Perfect Husband to His bride, the church. In this book, the readers are taken first to Christ, seeing His love for us in action, then from His example, the readers are given practical help in how His love for His bride can be "mirrored" in our own relationships with our wives.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  There were several times in writing this book that I almost called the publisher asking to be released from my contract. I felt so inadequate. My thoughtful wife encouraged me to press on, expressing, "If no one else benefits from this book, maybe we will!" She has been right. After all these years, we still work on our marriage, and I find the principles in "Loving Your Wife as Christ Loves the Church" so helpful in our own marriage. I'm currently going through this book with my accountability group and finding it beneficial personally. In fact, I think I'll read this book at least once every year!

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I found great benefit in reading Dave Harvey's book "When Sinners Say 'I Do.'" John Piper, Bob Lepine, C.J. Mahaney and Gary Ricucci were also very motivating to me.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  This book will be helpful, Lord willing, to the individual reader, but I believe it will be most beneficial to men who go through it with other men. Each chapter has discussion questions and action steps, making it ideal for men's ministries, accountability groups, man-to-man mentoring, marriage counseling, premarital counseling, etc.
