Laura Frantz has given us an amazing historical romance story. Her vivid details of the history of this time period put you in the story with the characters. Even though this is the third and final book in the Ballantyne Legacy series it was easy to read as a stand alone book. Laura's talent and style of writing are outstanding. She create's flawless and believable characters. Wren and James will capture you from the beginning. The story begins in Cane Run, Kentucky, August 1850, Wren's home town.

Wren (Rowena) Balalntyne has lead a simple and sheltered life since birth. Her father fled his home years ago but due to a letter he received from his grandfather asking him to come to New Hope he is returning with Wren.. Once there she has struggles trying to fit in with society there and her extended and powerful family.

She has a gentle and sweet nature, a honest heart and passion for life.

James Sackett works for for Silas Ballantyne. He is a steamboat pilot and secretly takes slaves to freedom on the boat from Ballantyne's shipping line. He is a gentleman, honorable, loyal to his employer and a hero.

When Wren meets James there is chemistry between them but the road is bumpy due to a lack of communication and misunderstandings.

A beautifully written and inspirational christian romance story that you won't want to miss. I loved this story and highly recommend this book to everyone.

The crowning glory of Laura Frantz's Ballantyne series, "Love's Fortune" is a literary legacy in its own right. Flawless characterizations, compelling romantic tension, tender conversations, gripping family expectations and an inspirational thread that leaves no doubt that a loving God can mastermind His intentions in spite of thoroughly tangled human complications.

Rowena "Wren" Ballantyne has never met her Pennsylvania family until her father Ansel receives a letter urging him to return home in order to assist his now aged father with their vast Ballantyne business holdings. Upon boarding the steam vessel bearing her name, she meets the famed steamboat pilot, James Sackett, whose stoic personality both intrigues and annoys her. Having been raised in the back woods of Kentucky since early childhood, Wren is totally unprepared to be the granddaughter of a vast fortune, and when her father leaves town to manage business affairs farther north, Wren's socially elite aunt and uncle persuade Wren into making a Pittsburgh debut, accompanied by none other than the enigmatic, handsome James Sackett.

There is much more to James Sackett than meets the eye and as Wren navigates polite, and not-so-polite society, he becomes a treasured confident. Sensing that her beautiful cousin Ellie is in love with James, Wren navigates the treacherous waters of expectations, arrangements and disappointments. In climatic final chapters, James and Wren discover that it will take desperate measures and a miracle from God above to knit their broken hearts back together.

In retrospect, five stars seem a bit dim for this outstanding addition to Laura Frantz's titles.

Laura Frantz has done it again! She has written a tale full of valuable lifes lessons to be remembered for days to come. The characters were so real, I felt like I was there with Wren and the others. The past came to life in the pages of this book. Miss Frantz has an amazing gift for storytelling and revisiting the days gone by. A fine read highly recommended!

    1850

Rowena Ballantyne, Wren, has happily lived her life in Cane Run, Kentucky, as the daughter of a luthier known far and wide for his skill and the beautiful music his violins make. Suddenly a letter from her father Ansels family in Pittsburgh cast her into a world she is unfamiliar with, and none too happy to be a part of. Not only is she confronted with family she knows nothing about but she also faces a whole set of expectations placed on her as the granddaughter of one of Pittsburghs most influential families. Just as she is learning her way around the family her father is sent away on business for her grandfather. Now she must negotiate her way through a world that doesnt know what to do with this passionate, vivacious young woman.

From the wooded, primitive hills of Kentucky to the industrial city of Pittsburgh comes a sweeping saga of the affluent Ballantynes -- and of the beloved Rowena "Wren" Ballantyne, who finds herself caught between both worlds.

Wren loves her simple life in Kentucky; crafting fiddles, dulcimers, and violins with her father, Ansel Ballantyne, and roaming the countryside in her mismatched clothing. But when Ansel receives a summons to return home to Pennsylvania because his father is ill, Wren's world is turned upside down. Entering high society means new dances to learn, ball gowns, corsets, and proper etiquette, and poor Wren longs for home. She is befriended by the rugged, James Sackett, a steamship pilot for Ballantyne Shipping, but it is the wealthy and irresistible, Malachi Cameron, who has his heart set on making Wren his bride. Will Wren choose her beloved Kentucky over the forbidden love of two handsome men? -- one of whom harbors a dangerous secret, and the other with a woman from his past waiting in the wings...

Laura Frantz has written another masterpiece -- destined to be an award winner! Not simply a story of balls and frippery, Ms. Frantz delves into the covert and dangerous world of aiding fugitive slaves, and seedy characters who will stop at nothing to obtain wealth. The romantic tension was exquisite torment (sigh), and the author's writing skills were unsurpassable. Wren was one of the most genuine "down to earth" young women, and I so fell in love with her character from page one. The only regret I have concerning this magnificent novel is saying "goodbye" to the Ballantynes...who leave behind a legacy of wealth, wisdom, and most of all -- love.
