Publisher's Description

Real life is long on law and short on grace—the demands never stop, the failures pile up, and fear sets in. Life requires many things from us—a stable marriage, successful children, a certain quality of life. Anyone living inside the guilt, anxiety, and uncertainty of daily life knows that the weight of life is heavy. We are all in need of some relief.

Bestselling author Tullian Tchividjian is convinced our exhausted world needs a fresh encounter with God's inexhaustible grace—His one-way love. Sadly, however, Christianity is perceived as being a vehicle for good behavior and clean living—and the judgments that result from them—rather than the only recourse for those who have failed over and over and over again. Tchividjian convincingly shows that Christianity is not about good people getting better. If anything, it is good news for bad people coping with their failure to be good.

In this "manifesto," Tchividjian calls the church back to the heart of the Christian faith—grace. It is time for us to abandon our play-it-safe religion, and to get drunk on grace. Two hundred-proof, unflinching grace. It’s shocking and scary, unnatural and undomesticated … but it is also the only thing that can set us free and light the church—and the world—on fire.

Endorsements

"Tullian goes straight to the heart of what is taking the heart out of people: an addiction to performance. Performancism equates value with accomplishments. God's grace, on the other hand, equates value with God's love. It is one-way, from Him. And it is guaranteed. Tullian captures the wonder of grace and offers it to us all. I urge you to read this book!" - Max Lucado, pastor and bestselling author

"A new book from Tullian Tchividjian is always a cause for celebration! I'm an old cynical preacher and sometimes I grow so tired - exhausted really - from trying to live up to the standards of those who manipulate and manage in the name of Jesus. This book is like a safe harbor in a ghastly storm because it's about truth, grace and Jesus. One Way Love: Inexhaustible Grace for an Exhausted World is a refreshing drink of cold, pure water to a thirsty soul. Read it and give it to everybody you know. They will rise up and call you blessed." - Steve Brown, President of Key Life Network, Radio Show Host, and author of Three Free Sins

"In the pressure-cooker world of professional sports that I live in, where it's tempting to locate my value in how I perform, Tullian's book comes as a relieving breath of fresh air." - Tony Romo, Quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys

"Tullian has a cut-and-thrust style that's completely engrossing. I was totally captured from the first sentence. His Pearl of Great Price is God's therapy for our wounds. It's a therapy of no "buts or brakes." Haven't you had it with buts and brakes? As if the world doesn't crowd you with enough of them to stint any of life's joys, the church lards them on "sans merci." Down with them, says Tullian! But not for Tullian's sake, or for any man or woman's sake, but down with them for Christ's sake. One Way Love should be a sing-along book. It should be a Coca-Cola jingle. It's the Real Thing. And this book will teach the world to sing." - Dr. Paul F.M. Zahl, author of Grace in Practice

"I have been greatly encouraged by the emergence of a new generation of committed and articulate Christian leaders-and my grandson Tullian Tchividjian is certainly in the forefront of this development. His deep understanding of the Gospel and his unique ability to communicate its timeless truths with compassion and insight have already had a profound impact on countless men and women. May God use this book to expand your understanding of what Jesus Christ has already done for you." - Billy Graham

"One Way Love is incredible news for flawed, tired, and imperfect people, and wouldn't you know it, that's every last one of us." - Mark Batterson, New York Times bestselling author of The Circle Maker

"My friend Tullian is a man on fire. He has one thing to say: Jesus came to set you free. This book will make you laugh and cry. But most importantly, it wonderfully points you to the only man and message that can lighten your load and bring you the rest you've been searching for your whole life." - Rick Warren, #1 New York Times best-selling author, The Purpose Driven Life; Pastor, Saddleback Church

I could not stop reading this book. I could not stop thinking about this book. I could not stop returning to this book. I could not stop mouthing yes, yes, yes over every page. Tullian write's with profound insight, humbling transparency, Biblical fidelity and one surgically sharp pen - that cuts away the infected areas and gratefully brings healing through the Word of Christ. Do not pass Go until you have read this book. It's like getting your life on a one-way street to everything you ever hoped for." - Ann Voskamp, author of the New York Times bestseller, One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are

It's possible that the Church's inability to grasp the concept of God's grace has kept more people away from Jesus than anything else. What a tragedy! Will we ever understand something so radical - and even offensive? And yet we must. One-Way Love by Tullian Tchividjian would be a perfect place to start." - Eric Metaxas, New York Times Best-selling author of Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy and Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery.

Somehow we Christians keep forgetting what Christianity is all about: not being good, but being forgiven because we are not good; not our performance, but Christ's performance; not grace as a theological abstraction to argue over, but grace as the one-way, unmerited love of God. In this vivid, heart-rending book, Tullian Tchividjian recovers the magnitude of God's grace. In doing so, he also shows how this one-way love can transform all of our relationships, including in our marriages and in our parenting, and how an awareness of the grace of God can free us from the exhaustion of always having to prove ourselves.

Faith without grace is exhausting. If you're tired of trying to fix you, with you, read this book. If you're done with keeping score and hoping your next good action will cancel out your last bad action, read this book. If deep down you hope that grace is a gift for the hopeless, not a compensation for the hardworking, read this book.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who reads very deeply and who reads about four/five books a week! He loaned me his copy, but I quickly realized I had to have my own! This book has revolutionized much of my thinking. I have purchased seven copies for family/friends for Christmas!

I have embraced the "thought" of unconditional love for many years but had not realized that saying I believed in this concept was one thing-living it another. This book was given to me at a time when we have had a horrendous act uncovered in our family, following desertion of a beloved daughter and children by her pastor husband! I have been forced to decide--bitterness, hatred, unforgiveness or the action of unconditional--ONE WAY--love. I thank the LORD for Tullian and his integrity and openness. I believe that my friend was inspired to give me this book--without any knowledge of our troubles--by our Father because He knew that I would need it desperately trying to survive on this battlefield at this time.

One Way Love by Tullivan Tchividjian is on a subject we sing about...and how Amazing it is, read about, and experience without always truly grasping the concept: GRACE. We live in a world of reciprocity and find it much easier to understand the concept of law---you do this, and that is your reward or consequence. But grace is unmerited favor that is undeserved. Using a variety of anecdotes from his own life, literature, celebrities, and familiar people from the Bible, Tchividjian gives us examples to bring home his point in a manner that makes it more easily understandable. You know how we exhaust ourselves trying to please God (and others) to prove we are worthy. There are also those who defiantly break the rules, and are surprised when shown grace anyway. Tchividjian reminds us that God's grace is here for us to accept. When we try, and when we fail to live up to our own expectations of what we should do, God's love for us does not increase nor does it diminish. God's grace truly is sufficient. This is a really good book and I do recommend it.

In case you couldn't tell, I am an avid reader of many different genres of books. I love fiction and nonfiction novels that spur the heart and mind, or a book that challenges me. One Way Love is filled with truth shared by an author who allows his heart and life to be transparent to readers. When an author shares truthfully what good or bad choices made in their life and what they learned, somehow that should arrest the attention of the audience.

While it is certainly true one can sit down, read each word and gain nothing from the writing, I am happy to say that for me this wasn't the experience. I pray it isn't yours either. Each chapter brings to the forefront behaviors or thoughts fallen human beings do or have done that can bring either blessing or bondage. If it brings bondage, the author shares how his past experiences are examples of how he was chained. He further shows how God's one way love not only freed him, but lifted him out. What was really inviting was the way God used various people in his life to be examples.

No matter who anyone is, we all are sinners in need of God's love, grace and forgiveness and not just once, but each and every day as we seek to repent. We can be conduits by which His Spirit leads us to be examples of His one way love. When I sat down to read the book, I had a highlighter, pencil and Bible close by and trust me I used them. Truthfully the author shares how God loves us long before we ever think to love Him. He shows how we can become trapped into thinking or acting that by performance we gain God's attention or favor, and then shows us what we really bring to Him.

With so much uncertainty in the world today, we might get caught up trying to control our own little world right where we live, but the freedom comes when we let go. I could tell you more about what the Lord spoke to me personally as I read the book, but the fun will be to hear how He speaks to you. Let's face it; everybody is tired of trying to meet standards, expectations or goals. We then take those into our relationship with the Lord and before we know it, we can't even seem to find beauty in our life. So how about it, would you like to challenged, touched and lightened? Then sit down, read a chapter and mark up the book. Get your Bible, notebook and pen and then listen to the still small voice that is filled with more one way love than perhaps you remember.
