jj2010CanadaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5AwesomeJanuary 19, 2014jj2010CanadaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I read this book a few months ago and loved it! One of my top 10 favorite books of all time. It was so inspiring to me. It is a very easy read- laugh out loud funny and the next minute near tears thinking about lessons I can learn from the stories Bob tells. Bob is an amazing story-teller, and has a unique way of taking his life stories and drawing inspiration about his spiritual life from them. What I took away from the book in a sentence- 'jump in to life'. Take the opportunities God puts in your path and say YES! Love with abandon.
I was excited when I saw that he now has a DVD! This DVD series was great to watch. It is 5 sessions, mostly based on stories and lessons from the book. It was fun to meet Bob Goff , 'in person'. There was a small part of me that was disappointed that he used all the stories I had read already, because the book had left me wanting more! The discussion questions that are in the accompanying study guide are great though and really help to make the book come even more alive on a personal level and to hear other people share their answers to his questions is also very inspiring. I liked the weekly take home challenges he gives- to step out in our lives and do something new and loving in the world around us in a specific way.
Bob's stories and thoughts have inspired me to quit thinking about myself so much, to jump in and do some things, even when it seems a little crazy. To live the life God has given us with an attitude of "jumping in with a cannonball, not just getting our toes wet". His personal stories and ministry about Uganda really touched my heart and reminded me that if each Christian did what they could for someone in need, our world would be changed. It has left me pondering many things and looking more carefully each day, how I can live like Jesus did, pouring out love.
My only recommendation to someone starting out, would be to do the DVD study first and then read the entire book.
This material was provided to me by the publisher, Thomas Nelson, in exchange for an honest review. -

I Love CardsPrince George, B.C.Age: 45-54Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Challenging and refreshingly humorousNovember 2, 2016I Love CardsPrince George, B.C.Age: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4This is a wonderfully challenging book. Bob Goff is refreshingly real about his own failures and the Lord's grace through our failures. I find myself chuckling because they're easy to relate to.
The DVD is my reason for 4 stars rather than 5. It seems to be rather haphazard and does not seem to relate to nor expand on the book.
