The Merritt families' story begins in Angel Sister, followed by Small Town Girl and completed in Love Comes Home. What is very amazing is that the author wrote her books while caring for her mother who has dementia, a very trying and arduous task to say the least. I imagine that for the author sometimes writing is therapy as well as an escape from the realities of caretaking among her everyday life. So God Bless and strengthen the author, especially during this season of life.

The setting for the tale is at the end of WWII with men returning home to their families whom they haven't seen for years. The three Merritt girls are married or widowed along with Lorena who was abandoned by her natural family during the Depression and raised in the Merritt home. Now, with the men returning, women are trying to be patient as their men come back with wounds of the soul, heart and mind. A couple of the Merritt women desire to start families right away, but with the unknown job situation of their husbands it tests their faith.

For one Merritt daughter the choice facing this single mom is whether to risk her heart again to love and hope or remain alone for years to come. Some of the outside family member characters are very dear and taken care of even though their names are different. The Merritt family is always willing to "adopt" another aunt into the home. I found this to be a heart-touching story, and I am convinced that in some ways it is reflective of reality for servicemen and women as they return from active duty back to civilian roles and environment.

Throughout the pages readers will find their hearts tugged on and the ability to identify with some of the same feelings, thoughts and turmoils as the characters. Once again, while we can escape to a fictional place, we will be reminded to be thankful for those who have and continue to serve this nation along with their families. The reliance on faith and family are two major threads that run though all three books of this series. I think the author did a wonderful job showing how facing the wounds of the heart take courage as well as the Lord's timing. There is diversity in the small town and each character has a place in the hearts and lives of the people living in Rosey Corner. Here is a great reminder that God can redeem the past and restore the hearts of the broken-hearted. Please take time to read about the Merritt family's tale through a couple different generations who lived through WWI & WWII and other historical events.

    About the Book:

World War II is finally over and the people of Rosey Corner are busy welcoming the boys home. The Merritt sisters in particular are looking toward the future. Kate is eager to start a family and live out her dream of happily ever after with Jay. Evangeline wants a beautiful house and encourages Mike to pastor a big-town church. Victoria wants what can never be—a life with a man who will never come back. And little Lorena is growing up and wondering more and more about her birth family.

Through the heartfelt storytelling of bestselling author Ann Gabhart, readers join these endearing characters as they walk an uncertain road. Each sister must learn to hold her plans with a loose hand, trusting that God will guide and strengthen them as they share the joys and sorrows of life in their little corner of the world.

    My Review:

Kate can't believe that the day has finally arrived to welcome home her love after he has been gone all this time fighting in the war. Even though the boys of war coming home could cost her a lot, she doesn't mind if she has his loving arms to run to.

Jay is is back home and surrounded by all of those that love him and that have missed him all these years. He is plagued with the events from the war. He has absolutely no rest from the thoughts in his head. How will he ever overcome these troubling things in his mind?

With Mike back home, Evangeline is ready to get back to a normal life. She wants to have the home of her dreams and family, but is her beloved ready for a normal life?

Mike thinks that he has it all. He is simply overjoyed to still be alive and the only thing that would make this life anymore worthwhile would be if he become pastor of the local church.

Victoria is happy to see the boys coming home, but she can't help but feel a little sour about it. Since her husband was one of the casualties of war--when he lost his life as a prisoner of war, she can barely control the tears that threaten her sanity.

Lorena feels the need to finally seek out her birth parents. Singing in church isn't enough, she wants to find them in order to show them what she has become.

The story of Love Comes Home, is a poignant story of several lives touched by the cost of war. Whether big or small, the war in its own way touches the hearts and lives of many and the author chose to show us just how much. Whether it was a happy time, sad time, or a time full of anger each one of the characters seemed very raw and very real. The people of Rosy Corner led a sweet, simple existence and I wouldn't mind visiting them again!

MY REVIEW- I really enjoyed this read. There was only two things I didn't like. One, I didn't know upon receiving this for review that it was the third in a series. I really should have read the previous two. I intend on doing just that as I really enjoyed this book. They really aren't stand alones. I highly recommend that they be read in order. Due to finances, that wasn't possible before this review. Second, there are a lot of characters in the book, and many of them have nicknames. Therefore, I found it a bit difficult to follow. This could possibly be due to it being the third in a series, but I think I still would have had a hard time trying to keep all the characters straight in my mind.

What did I like! Everything else! This was not a totally predictable book, nor did everything always work out perfectly. It is set in the time period when the men are adjusting to being home from war. Their wives are trying to get use to their changed husbands, yet they are rejoicing if their loved ones were among those that survived. The women had been working so a great change was in store for them as well. This book really made me think about how difficult life must have been for families after the long WWII. The characters seem real. One I loved...and one I just wanted to smack in the face! A group of sisters, all very different, and how each learns to cope with their circumstances. Each finding that leaving God in control is really the only answer. Some characters have verses that help them through the difficult days. Their faith is what holds them together. I really enjoyed this read. It was my first by this author, but it won't be my last! I highly recommend this book, and I will probably update this after I've read the two I missed. Great read!

I received this book through the publisher and bookfun.org for my honest opinion which I have given.

    Love Comes Home

    By Ann H. Gabhart

A great family story of post-Depression era evolves, interrupted by immediate life after World War II for the Families.

This story is seen through the eyes of Women, and Male wisdom figures.

PTSS before we has a name, at the mild end, and how healing happened along the way, is one of the strong secondary supporting themes. Warm, laughable, down to the dregs spiritually and emotionally challenging-

Youll feel how the people of the time were stretched way beyond pre-war life.

Love Comes Home is a continuation of previous stories, but may also be read alone. Like the previous two books in the Rosey Corner series, Ann H. Gabhart creates a sweet storyline that contains both wonderfully happy and despairingly sad portions. The plot moves along relatively quickly and with ease, but in the process of telling the tale of four sisters, it looses a bit of detail and distances the reader from each individual girl. The story is not overly romantic or dramatic, although the real-life scenarios of the characters are believable and touching. The book slows a bit in the middle, but the ending is a wonderful conclusion to the struggles the girls encounter throughout the book. Overall, this novel is sweet and recommended to those who enjoy stories of strong female characters overcoming realistic hardships.

I received a copy of this book from Revell Publishing in exchange for an honest review.
