Are you looking for love in all the wrong places? Eye opening book about looking to God for love instead of always looking for love and approval from others. We all look for approval from others which usually just results in low self esteem or heartbreak. We should be only be looking for love and approval from God. Wonderfully written and great eye opener.
Like many people, I have a tendency to be hard on myself and to compare myself to others. When choosing which books I wanted to read for the summer, my friend recommended that I read this book and I am glad that I did. In this book, the author makes the point that rather than fight for the approval of the world, we should be more concerned with God's approval which is given to us the day we become Christians. I was shocked by a few other things I learned when reading this book too such as when I compare myself to others or hold myself to a high standard, I am basically practicing idolatry. This is a great book for woman to read because we normally are so concerned about things that result from our own insecurities such as our waist size, how attractive we are viewed, and being perfect all the time. This book will help its readers realize that God already loves them not because of what we do or look like, but simply because we are His.
In Love Idol: Letting Go of Your Need for Approval-and Seeing Yourself through God's Eyes, Jennifer Dukes Lee shares a thoughtful look at how our need for approval can become an idol in our hearts.
Jennifer's poetic writing envelops you in her scenes. From riding in a limo with Al Gore to walking to the bus stop with her daughters, you'll find yourself beside her. She reveals her heart tension, knowing the importance of a job well done, but also understanding that identity and self worth are not tied to that performance. Jennifer shares some of the lessons learned in her personal struggles, finding comfort in the assurance from Scripture that we don't need to perform for God because, in Christ, we are already approved.
An amazing book of God's love and acceptance of us

This is from the back cover of the book Love Idol by Jennifer Dukes Lee:
"Hi, I'm Jennifer. I know we've just met, but already . . . I want you to like me."
"YOU'VE FELT IT—that deep longing for people to value you, respect you . . . and love you. You've worked hard for their approval. You've wanted to make people think you've got it all together, but on the inside, you're falling apart. And you've heard this one question ringing in your ears: What will people think of me?
Jennifer Dukes Lee knows exactly how you feel. She understands how exhausting life can be when you're chained to your approval rating. Jennifer has spent plenty of time and energy trying to earn others' approval—at work, home, and church—all while wondering what would happen if the facade dropped and everyone saw her hidden mess. She's made the same mistakes many of us make as we try to sprint for significance—and wear ourselves out pursuing human love and acceptance above all else.
And now Jennifer leads you on a journey to rediscover the joy found in the unconditional love of God. Through her own life journey, she gently invites you to make peace with yourself and to stop working overtime for an approval that is already yours in Christ. Love Idol will help you dismantle what's separating you from true connection with God and rediscover the astonishing freedom of a life lived in authentic love."
I was so anxious to read this book as I felt, as I'm sure many others have, that this book was written for me. I have dealt with insecurities my whole life. I've been trying to find my place and where I belong in this world. This book is amazing. It helped me realize my place is with God. He loves me, accepts me and I already have his approval. Really all that matters in this life is sharing God's word, getting people to Christ and us getting to heaven ourselves. This book has shown me that I don't need to worry about seeking other's approval ~ I have God's approval and that is all that matters.
I give this book 5***** all the way around. This is a book that I am sure to read over and over and I recommend it to everyone.
