Beam me up, Scotty. We ve all seen the bumper stickers, or at least observed our culture s fascination with the possibility of UFOs and alien life. Perhaps the attraction comes as a response to the pain and struggle of life on Earth. We think, There must be something beyond this. In the film K-PAX a self-proclaimed alien appears in a hurting and violent cityscape. Although his arrival and message land him in a psychiatric hospital, this mysterious stranger instills a sense of hope and wonder in his fellow patients and even in his psychologist. The question remains: Is he who he claims to be, or is there a more human secret?
