As a Family Pastor, I just purchased a case of The Jesus Storybook Bible to give out to each set of parents that will dedicate a child this year at our church. I believe there is no better version to introduce a young one to the Bible, by focusing on Christ as the common thread throughout the Scriptures. It's the ultimate conclusion that all formally education, trained and skilled biblical theologians I know of come to anyway, so why not begin with our precious little ones where the Apostle John began . . . "In the beginning was the Word."

I would encourage parents to consider the author's intent, as well as the intended audience, when it comes to this book. It is not claiming to BE scripture, but a storybook ABOUT the Bible. Also, it IS focusing on God's love through Christ--again, a theme from the Apostle John (3:16-17). I think of it this way: When I try to explain marriage to my young kids, I tend to focus on the main point--two people loving each other--rather than a full expose' of family of origin complications, gender differences and role definitions, conflict management, financial stressors, communication barriers, etc. While these are all, eventually and progressively, essential matters to be aware of and navigate through in adult reality, do our youngest of children truly benefit from hearing about them at their age? As children mature, more and more can (and naturally will) be revealed about the very real barriers and hinderances to experiencing and expressing God's love. As we stay connected in communication and relationship with them throughout their developmental years, we can discuss and work through this together with them.

The Jesus Storybook Bible is a GREAT introduction to GOOD NEWS available to us because of God's love for us through Christ! A message I want EVERYONE in our congregation to grasp first and foremost!

A very sweet and engaging Bible storybook! I enjoyed the freshness of the paraphrasing. (I read the poor reviews...and come on, people! It is written for young children, so it is not a word-for-word translation! For myself, I do not like paraphrases, but for young children, a paraphrase that deftly & clearly summarizes the main concepts, is helpful rather than "inaccurate".) The illustrations are awesome! I appreciate that they aren't overly cutesy, just as real people aren't all cute. Also, families should try to have a variety of Bibles for their children for a variety of perspectives, emphasis, ever-changing reading/understanding levels, and enjoyment! This is a great addition which I highly recommend.

I absolutely love this book! I love how it points to Jesus throughout. I enjoyed reading this beautifully written book. I am buying it for my grandchildren and I will be buying copies to give away to other children in memory of my grand daughter that passed away this year. I highly recommend it for the children you love.

This book paraphrases a selection of Bible stories in ways that really connect with children and adults alike. It succeeds in putting the reader right into the story in a most inviting way. It provokes questions and inspires conversation and discussion between generations--key ingredients of lasting faith formation.

I wanted to introduce my son (21 months old) to Jesus and the other people and stories in the Bible. This book is good for my purposes. The illustrations are engaging and I like them quite a lot. The pictures are what we're really interested right now but I'm enjoying the writing and reading it to him. It's maybe not perfectly accurate or complete scripture but it's absolutely age appropriate for the target age ranges. May be too simple for 7-8 year olds and I would probably choose something different for a child in that range.

Cosmetically, the hardcover feels like a small textbook. Good binding, shiny bright pages. Excellent quality, great price.
