JenniferBCanadaAge: 35-44Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5May 17, 2010JenniferBCanadaAge: 35-44Gender: FemaleIsaac Newton by Mitch Stokes is one of the new, short biographies in the Christian Encounters series from Thomas Nelson. Small enough to slip into a purse, these paperback biographies are perfect for slipping in quick snippets of biographical reading throughout the day.Isaac Newton proved to be fascinating reading for me, having known little other than the typical myths about the discovery of gravity and such. I particularly appreciated Stokes attention to Newtons faith, particularly in this post-modernistic age where Newtons approach to backing up science with quantifiable mathematics has been used by many atheists to try to shove Newton out of the picture (hed be horrified, as he was incredibly devout and opposed to atheism.)Stokes background in philosophy, religion, and science studies make him an ideal author covering Newtons life as he can approach it from so many angles explaining Newtons scientific work with a great deal of personal understanding, and delving into the finer details of Newtons theology that are well, finer than many readers will likely understand the significance of (yes, that includes me at times).I was entirely captivated by this account of Newtons life and highly recommend it to readers interested in exploring both the life, science, and deep faith of this scientific genius who is well known by many, but who is often robbed of his deep adherence to the Christian faith.

Nichole Jodan5 Stars Out Of 5April 23, 2010Nichole JodanAt first as I opened this book I thought I might have a very long dry read ahead of me, but I was acctualy surprised at the amount of information about Isaac Newton I did not know about! Newton was a was an amazing scientist but also seemed to have a great faith and trust in God. He was truly given a great gift. I don't understand many things about science but this book was very insightfull. You see that Isaac Newton isn't just the guy who had an apple fall on his head that you hear about in school! He was a world famous scientist, mathematician, astronomer and through Newton's life he has changed the world and still continues to have an effect even long after his death. In his own words, To celebrate God for his eternity, immensity, omnisciency and omnipotence is indeed very pious and the duty of every creature I am challenged and inspired in just reading the story of how God used this man. So if you ever get a chance to pick up this book and read it! I would recommend this book to you! Mamma Beth5 Stars Out Of 5Couldn't put it down!!August 13, 2020Mamma BethQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This little book is so well written and I wish it were in every personal library in America! I gained a great respect for this man and it left me wishing I could've met him. Did you know he wrote much much more on religious books than he did on science?! What a fascinating man!

Barb5 Stars Out Of 5April 2, 2010BarbI really enjoyed this book. Even though I didn't understand the technicalities of algebra, geometry and physics that were sprinkled throughout the book, one can't help but come away amazed at the gift God gave the world in Isaac Newton. And, as the book suggests in a few instances, we may only know a fraction of what he was capable of. He himself was conscious of how much he did not know. Sir Isaac led a very interesting life, though a somewhat lonely one, it seems. His little quirks and eccentricities make him more real to me than he was before. I especially was moved by both his firm belief in the Creator God and that science is not "all" there is but simply a means to explore, learn and discover more about God and His creation. He is an inspiration for all creation scientists today. In his own words, To celebrate God for his eternity, immensity, omnisciency and omnipotence is indeed very pious and the duty of every creature He asserted that the purpose of science was to glorify God, to teach man to live well, & to be charitably affected helping our neighbors. May all students of science learn this truth. Thanks to Thomas Nelson Publishers for providing me with a free copy of this book to review.

LaTawnia Kintz5 Stars Out Of 5March 31, 2010LaTawnia KintzIsaac Newton was a genius born on Christmas day in 1642. He was born premature and was expected to live. He not only lived but became one of the world's greatest thinker, experimenter, mathematician and theologian. His greatest work, Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy, is still studied today.Isaac Newton by Mitch Stokes was a wonderful, insightful book to read. It was interesting to find out that Newton didn't discover gravity by having an apple actually falling on his head but rather he was thinking of gravitation while sitting under some apple trees when an apple fell. It was also fascinating to read about how Newton made his various discoveries and why he did them.In everything Issac Newton did, he did it to glorify God. All of his studies, experiments, the hundreds of papers he wrote, he did so he could know God and "give him honor & glory." His religion wasn't a dry intellectual theory but a living, heartfelt relationship with his Creator and he wanted to discover everything he could about nature and science in order to glorify God.This is a great book for anyone to read who would like to know more about this amazing man. : Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.
