Product Description

More than twenty years ago, the leadership team at Perimeter Church, a rapidly growing church founded by Randy Pope, realized that personal, life-on-life missional discipleship was accounting for a unique and unmatched depth of spiritual growth and heart for outreach with the individuals involved. Insourcing tells the story of how they learned to bring discipleship back from the margins of church life to the mainstream.

Many pastors and leaders are slowly awakening to the reality that current models of ministry just aren't working the way they had hoped they would. Randy's journey as a pastor will encourage you and invite you to consider the effectiveness and fruitfulness of your own church's discipleship efforts.

Publisher's Description

Too many of today’s pastors and leaders mistakenly think that thriving programs, lively worship services, and relevant preaching are adequate for developing people into the spiritual dynamos God desires. In many churches, the primary objective of the church—discipleship of people into mature followers of Jesus—has been “outsourced” to programs and large-scale efforts to train and teach. But is that happening? Are people growing in spiritual depth and missional determination?

Twenty-five years ago, the leaders of Randy Pope’s rapidly growing church took serious stock of their own spiritual development and realized all of them had benefitted from a personal discipleship relationship that had helped them grow in their faith and discover where God was calling them to service. As a church, they decided to make personal discipleship their do-or-die aim: applying one person’s real life to another’s to accomplish something far bigger than that single life. Perimeter calls their approach “life-on-life missional discipleship” and Insourcing tells their story.

Randy Pope writes for church leaders who recognize the value of discipleship and need practical ideas for reorienting church ministries around personal discipleship. Readers will be encouraged that a wide scale personal discipleship program is attainable for any church.

This book was a slow read but the principle is very clear: one on one discipleship is a must in the world today. Churches plan and promote programs and activities but real spiritual growth and health can only be accomplished when individuals dive deep into the Word of God and share life together.

We must create or adopt a process where we consistently train believers to go out and make disciples. This is the purpose of the church

According to Chris Ingram, President and Teaching Pastor of Living on the Edge, Christianity is in crisis. Even the most successful churches and programs are not producing mature followers of Christ who lead others to Christ and make disciples. He maintains that life-on-life missional discipleship is missing.

Perimeter Church, over 25 years ago, discovered their personal, life-on-life missional discipleship approach was responsible for the unique spiritual growth in members of the church. "INsourcing" tells its story and shows how they learned to bring discipleship back into the life of the church.

Pope and his wife started discipleship groups with a few committed people. After three years, these committed people started discipleship groups of their own. This model of discipleship suggests that the leader invite members to the group and facilitates group meetings that embrace five fundamental areas including Truth, Equipping, Accountability, Mission and Supplication. Small groups last three years at which time those who are ready will lead their own group.

After more than 25 years, Pope's discipleship model is proven to grow Christians spiritually in the faith and equip them to disciple others. Using examples of a typical small group meeting throughout the book, it's easy to see why this model works so well. Along with the spiritual teaching, a community forms. This community prays for each other, holds each other accountable and lives life together. It fosters unity within the church and develops a strong community of believers who love others.

"INsourcing" is a must-have resource for every pastor seeking to increase spiritual growth in his/her church. It is an invaluable resource for creating small groups in the church community.
