CrispinRoblesDiamond Bar, CAAge: 55-65Gender: Male5 Stars Out Of 5Love the Translation and the NotesDecember 22, 2014CrispinRoblesDiamond Bar, CAAge: 55-65Gender: MaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The RSV is my favorite translation, and this edition presents it without the archaic language used when someone is addressing deity, as the original does. It's a big paperback but seems durable, and the text is easy to read. It boasts large-print but not overly large.
The notes are the best feature. They complement the notes I refer to in my NIV Study Bible, and in most cases go quite a bit deeper. The notes discuss language, literary devices, theology, imagery, history and more, and they are clear and cogent. Some notes have been granted a whole page of their own. There seems hardly a verse that hasn't warranted some kind of commentary by the editors. Some notes do have a decidedly Catholic bent, but they are few and far between. I find the notes on historical background to be very helpful, and I especially like the notes found in the Book of Revelation.
I am not Roman Catholic. I am Protestant. However, the vast majority of notes in this edition transcend sectarianism and hold knowledge and light for any reader of the Bible. I hope Ignatius plans on releasing an RSV-CE 2nd Edition Study Bible for the Old Testament. I highly recommend this edition of the New Testament. Buy it. You won't be disappointed. -
Sam SAge: 18-24Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5December 5, 2011Sam SAge: 18-24Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Revised Standard Version - Catholic Edition, in my opinion, is the single best translation of the Bible out there. The original RSV was an attempt to translate as accurately as possible. The second edition study boasts a HUGE amount of footnotes and study content, possibly taking up more room in the book than the actual Scripture text. Scott Hahn, et al have done a phenomenal job of bringing the truths of the New Testament to a comprehensible level for this generation. Looking forward to the Old Testament!

PattiABAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5RSV New TestamentJuly 21, 2015PattiABAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The quality of this book is excellent. The pages are bound, and will not fall apart.
The print type is easily readable and large enough for us old people to read.
I like the icons on the front, and I ordered this NT because of the icon of Jesus on the front. That reminds me that the whole focus of the gospel is on Jesus our Savior.
The only small objection I have is the changing of Junia to Junias at Romans 16, and adding the word "men" to make it look like Junia is a man. The original greek does not have "men". This is an error in translation by the translation team.
This is a solidly constructed book which is good for taking to Bible studies, and easy to carry in a purse or pocket. -
