The fifteen chapters are short and practical. There is an overall theme of our lives being a marathon (starting with chapter one), but it is so important that we remember that the race is a team effort. Towards the end of the chapter it is stated that leaders "forget that the younger generation needs to see a living curriculum!" We can't stop learning, but we also can't stop showing others the Christlike life. That would be a great book in itself!

Other chapters deal with suffering, funerals, finances, finishing well, facing death, and many others. They're all good! We need information like this. We would do well to give serious thought to what our lives will be like as we come to our second half of life. This book gives us much to consider.

I think it would have been helpful to include some suggested resources that would guide the reader in implementing the ideas. At times, I found myself asking "How do I do that?" so many times throughout the book. How do I mentor someone else? How do restore relationships with people? How do I handle my finances?

If you are approaching those senior years (I would call you a Senior in Training!), please get this book and prepare to live many more productive years for the purpose of bringing glory to our Savior. If you have already arrived at those golden years, read this book and make some adjustments as needed. God will be pleased. I highly recommend it!

This book is a very practical guide that provides a vision for following Christ in the second half of life.   It is not just a book for those who are near the end, like Billy Graham's new book.  Rather it covers issues that are relevant to both 50 somethings and 80 somethings.   It has a gospel centered vision that is not afraid of the hard issues that are part of this half of life.  It provides many interesting examples with stories from the lives of John Stott, Bill Bright, Vernon Grounds, Roger Nicole, and others.  It covers issues such as mentoring working, healthy relationships, revising your bucket list, and heaven.

Larry Crabb, author, counselor and psychologist said of this book "Only Christians can fully live now until we're fully alive then!  With uncomfortable realism and unflinching hope, the Sweetings show us how."

Pat Williams, Orlando Magic Senior VP, writes, "My longtime friends George Sweeting and his son Don have teamed up to write a spiritual gem on how to finish the Christian life. At age 72, the book hit home with me big time. That's why I finished it in one sitting."

Steve Brown, Bible teacher and radio talk show host on Key Life radio has also praised the book.  He says "What a wonderful, helpful and wise book. I'm an old cynical preacher and this book makes me less cynical and far more wise about my life and my own journey to the "finish line."  But this isn't just a book for old folks. It's about life and how to live it.  Read it and give it to everyone you know!

I have been looking for a book like this to give to friends who need a vision for the second half of life.  This one does the job.
