I noticed the most recent review was last year and felt compelled to write a review. I am highly pleased with the Horizon's kindergarten math books! I tried Abeka with my son first and after finishing the kindergarten level, felt it did not thoroughly cover concepts. So made a lateral switch to the Horizon's kindergarten math curriculum. We just finished it and now have started the first grade books. My son loves math and I enjoy the continual spiraling of content and ease at which my son can complete his daily math lesson.

Takeaway- As a former public school teacher turned homeschool mom, I am highly pleased with the Horizons math curriculum. The lessons are a one page, front and back, and move at a decent pace to keep your child engaged and continually learning new concepts. I am not a fan though of the Horizons phonics and reading for kindergarten.

I love this book. For someone new to teaching math to a toddler, This book is great. The spiral approach ensures that each lesson is slightly different and it's not boring for the child. The book is colorful too. The teachers' manual is really not necessary.

very gentle and easy to use...this is the second child I have chosen to use it for...I use this book when my children are 4 years old...although it is labeled for Kindergarten, I think it might be a little too easy for most 5 year olds...works perfectly for the relaxed pace of Pre-K

This is far better than A Beka's math, in both appearance and style. More organized, and the 'multi-tasking' mentioned in a previous review is purposeful - it's only there bringing elements together that will be used altogether at a later point. I am in my second year of using Horizons in my 8yr old autistic son's home program. Though we are in different circumstances, I don't find it 'advanced' in the least. I think it has a great pace, and thoroughly lays down fundamentals before progressing - ie, subtraction has yet to be introduced, in the effort for the child to master addition first. We are in book two of the kindergarten set, and I just love it. I would recommend this to absolutely anyone, and you should also know that if you are a naturally "teachy" kind of person, you don't really need the teacher's guide at all.

Horizons is a wonderful way to introduce your child to math. I have used Horizons K multiple times and my children have a firm grasp on math. I never used or bought the teacher's manual- at least not through grade 2. These books are affordable, easy to teach, and are going to give your child a great start to math!
