I have been using CLP's K-3 curriculums with three of my children . It's Godly , it's affordable and it's very comprehensive academically . My three children were all reading & spelling at 3-4th grade level before finishing Kindergarten . We especially loved Little Pilgrims book, the phonics and the spelling ( the best in the market, very easy to use ) and the nature readers --all grades. I did not care too much for the math program ( I supplement with Asian math ) .

Overall, I think this is the BEST Christian curriculum on the market because it is very affordable , academical and very easy to use , even for unexperienced parents or busy parents .

I just ordered this for next fall, with the idea that I can look through the curriculum and order supplementary materials as needed (especially considering the price). This is our 3rd year homeschooling (pre-k, k, and now 1st), but it is the first year that I have purchased "real curriculum" as opposed to putting something together myself from various sources. But, I needed something that would make my life easier, as we have 3 children. I have glanced at all of the materials and the teacher's/parent's manuals. This is more than enough for 1st grade. Meets or exceeds all of the state standards in Louisiana for 1st grade. I had looked at other curriculums and went to an "open house" of sorts for one of the big name brands out there, the one all of the schools use and is the envy of every christian homeschooling parent, but honestly I did not care for it. The other "brand" was scripted (CLP is not scripted; if that is what you want look elsewhere), was full color (which is nice but unnecessary, most of CLP is not full color), and the other seemed to really be about "business" capitalizing (read very expensive) on Christian parents that want a solid Biblical education for their children; the other "brand" curriculum package didn't even include a Bible program, you had to purchase that separately. After deciding that wasn't for us, I took a leap with this, not having held it in my hands I prayed that it would be good. The company seems to really want to be a ministry for children, parents, and families. There are encouraging words for parents at the start of each parent's manual, there are lesson plans that are not scripted but divide up the work so that you can evenly disperse it throughout the year, art once a week, math every day etc. It even tells you the approximate amount of time it may take to get through the material. I love it, it gives me enough guidance that I am not struggling to keep my head above water, but it doesn't "baby" me either, and gives me the freedom to teach my child how I want. I write this long review because I see so few for this great program, and want people to really have an idea of what it is like. The only subject that this doesn't seem to cover directly is health, but most of health in the first grade is common sense and includes things that most "involved" parents instill in their children: healthy eating, good hygiene, mental health etc. CLP does come from a reformed perspective, and includes catechism questions- but this could be easily skipped if you want. Also, I like how the Bible is incorporated into all facets of the curriculum.

*Purchased the planner and "Jesus" readers that come with the kit from CLP's website: they are helpful and a good resource, but not necessary

Needs to have an additional book to develop writing skills (not handwriting but paragraph writing). Great value, solid otherwise. I would recommend adding BJU English 2 and you would be set. Great value! Great phonics and math!

Overall I am very happy with this kit. It really does have everything you need to get started homeschooling. I purchased some other books to add with the math. It saves you a tone when compared with other homeschool kits on the market. I am going to be getting the 2nd grade kit for next year.
