I can't but help think of how God has THE greatest sense of humor.... the lengths he goes to bring us back to Him are amazing. I read this book in 2 days because I couldn't put it down. Travis gives little snippets to the road Cory had to travel before reaching the dark valley that is his life. Cory is given the chance to face how his past has shaped the man he is and forgiveness from the choices that cripple him. Travis literally hit it out of the ball park for me with this book. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone. I received a copy of this book from TBCN for my honest opinion.

I'm not a big sports fan -- I couldn't name the favorite teams or players in any particular sport. But I have enjoyed lots of really good movies and books that revolve around a sports team or individual. Home Run is the latest I've found in that category.

The people in the story seem real -- they struggle, they are flawed, and they draw you into their lives so that you care what happens to them. Cory Brand, major-league baseball star, and the family and friends he left behind in his hometown learn first-hand about the power of God's love in healing hearts of long-standing hurts.

Home Run is a well-written read for a wide audience, with a good mix of baseball, faith, and relationship. The flashbacks at the end of each chapter help the reader put pieces together and understand more about how Cory got to the point where his life and career seem to be falling apart -- and how he finds his way home.

Sports fan or not, anyone who enjoys a good story of hope, healing, and redemption should enjoy Home Run. The book is a novelization of a movie due to be released later this month. If the movie is as good as the book, it should be a hit!

Thanks to David C. Cook publishers for providing this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

God works in a mysterious way...i don't know if you have come across blog posts that talk about ONE WORD where one word is chosen (through various means) as a lesson for the coming year. Last year, I strongly felt that my one word was Patience. And in August I had a very hard lesson on that as I sat by my Mom's bedside in ICU.

Friday I received Home Run. This morning, Sunday, the message was on true repentance, and I felt that God was talking to me. Drawing me closer to Him. True Repentance is accepting my own blame, and not involving others, as well as being sorry enough that this makes a change in my lifestyle or attitude. No one, least of all God, expects us to do this on our own. I feel Home Run is one of the ways God wants to use to bring this concept home to each one of us. The message is plain enough, simple enough and yet told in such a compelling way that it will dig deep into the conscious of the Christian. And yet, the title, the cover and the blurb at the back will have others picking it up as well.

Well written, in deep point of view where you not only see and hear what is happening but you also feel the emotions of the main character. The reader learns the back story through flashbacks, which are written in their own short chapter and in italics. Superbly done!

I received this book free from bookfun.org for the purpose of writing an honest review. A positive critique was not required, and the opinions stated are my own.

Beautifully written and achingly real, "Home Run" will sweep you up into the power of a well-told story, and it just may change your life at the same time! Cory Brand is a character who broke my heart from the first pages of the story, and who I amazingly continued to care about despite the fact that there were moments I just wanted to give him a good shake. Travis Thrasher, and the creators of the movie that this novel is based on, have created a complex character in Cory, one who perfectly illustrators how broken our lives can become and how addictions can take over every part of a person. Cory could be your neighbor, your parent, your spouse, your friend, everyone you know who is struggling with pain and heartache and trying to cope with life. It may even be you! However, "Home Run" not only paints a portrait of what a broken life looks like, but also reminds us of the power of God's grace, of God's ability to take a broken piece of clay and mend it back together with his love. It's a message that needs to be told, and Travis Thrasher has told it well!

Wonderful prose and a storyline that will invoke deep emotion combine to create an unforgettable story in "Home Run", a story worth celebrating. Pick up this book - you will be glad you did. And I don't know about you, but I'm planning on watching the movie version too!

    5 out of 5 stars.

This is the story of addiction. The main character, a professional baseball player was an abused child of an alcoholic, and is still carrying around his pain and making choices that prevent his escape. When he accidently bloodies the nose of his nephew, whom he does not recognize, and pitches an angry fit on the ball field, he is suspended for eight weeks. Circumstances force him to return home and come face to face with his pain and his poor choices.

Everyone should read this book. We all carry around remnants of childhood that affect current choices, not to mention dealing with addictions. The theme of this book is that everybody has to deal with bad things in their life, but with the forgiveness of the Lord, everyone is capable. Beautiful book. I would recommend it for everyone.
