Betty Kirby5 Stars Out Of 5November 13, 2009Betty KirbyThis review was written for Holman QuickSource Guide to Understanding Creation.I have not had the opportunity to delve into the "Creation" book. It was recommended to me by a dear friend who said if you have had questions, wonder about any event in the Bible, or just plain 'don't know,' I can tell you this book will answer them." This man is very learned, a very deep thinker and a tremendous Christian. I bought it on his recommendation, am looking forward with great anticipation to soon getting into the book. The man also said it puts Darwin out of the picture without question.

Gregory AlanFortuna, CAAge: 55-65Gender: male1 Stars Out Of 5Warning - Progressive CreationismFebruary 15, 2023Gregory AlanFortuna, CAAge: 55-65Gender: maleThis review was written for Holman QuickSource Guide to Understanding Creation. This book presents three models of creation: Scientific Creationism, Progressive Creationism, and Evolutionary Creationism. The book then goes through Genesis One in detail and attempts to determine which of the creation models is the best interpretation of the text.
Although it tries to be objective, and presents arguments for and against each model, it is clear that it favors Progressive Creationism. It says, "[T]he Progressive Creationism model says that over long periods of time (the 'days' of Genesis) new kinds of plant and animal species were created by God through his successive interventions in the normal operations of nature. Progressive creationists accept the [secular] timescales and mechanisms of astronomy and geology but reject macro-evolutionary theory " (p. 75).
The book also presents five models which deal with the age of the earth: Recent Creation, the Day-Age model, Analogical Days, Fiat Days and the Framework Model. It discusses the "scientific evidence" for an ancient earth, and concludes that "These are just some of the many natural processes that reveal the antiquity of Earth. Current estimates for the age of the earth are about 4.5 billion years" (p. 243). This is its contention throughout the book, e.g., "The Ancient Creation view enjoys support from both science and biblical linguistics" (p. 117-118).
I could write pages and pages pointing out the theological, scientific and logical errors, inconsistencies and fallacies in this book. Suffice it to say that this book does NOT interpret Genesis One literally.
So I will conclude with one question for the progressive creationists (and the evolutionary creationists): If you do not take Genesis 1:1-25 literally, then you can't take Genesis 1:26-27 literally, and neither can you take Genesis Two literally (which is a continuation based on the facts of Genesis One), including Genesis 2:7 and 21-22. These verses tell us that Adam and Eve were specially created by God, directly from the dust of the ground (Adam) and from Adam's rib (Eve). If you believe science which (supposedly) tells us that the universe and the earth gradually evolved over billions of years, why don't you believe science when it tells us that humans have evolved from the apes? This is just one of the glaring inconsistencies of progressive creationism.
