Robin Lee Hatcher's The Heart's Pursuit is a light western adventure that makes for a quick, fun read.

The story has a taste of the old TV westerns to it -- the bounty hunter chasing down the bad guys, passing through towns, spending lots of days in the saddle and nights on the hard ground under the stars. Of course, the pretty girl traveling with the bounty hunter might not have been standard fare to those shows but definitely made this story more interesting.

Silver and Jared were both characters I enjoyed meeting. Watching them work through the baggage they carried from past hurts and trying to navigate their way together through difficult circumstances made for a very good story. Some of the twists of the story were pretty predictable, but others caught me off guard. My only disappointment was that the resolution of the greatest conflict seemed to be anti-climactic and fell a little flat. All in all, though, I would recommend this as a very entertaining read from Robin Lee Hatcher.

The Heart's Pursuit was a thoroughly enjoyable read! There are some pretty deep and troubling crimes that happen throughout the novel, but never once does the book get overly gruesome or dark in the descriptions of the events. I was able to read this book very quickly and enjoyed the short chapters. That made it easy for me to set the book down and attend to other things, then easily jump right back into the story. I also really liked the cover. It has beautiful colors and a really neat texture.

Both of the main characters are strong. Silver Matlock is a jilted bride who wants to track down her thieving fiancé. Jared Newman is a bounty hunter who could help her do just that. But Jared has a hidden agenda to attend to and another criminal he is determined to catch.

I enjoyed these characters and the storyline was very interesting. I thought the author did a great job of describing what it was really like for Jared and Silver to be out on the trail together. The romance that develops between the two was sweet. The Heart's Pursuit is a nice, historical romance.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, through Litfuse Publicity Group, in exchange for an honest review, which I have given.

Silver Matlock has nothing to lose. Her reputation is already in taters after being jilted and her ex-fiance has skipped town with her parent's money. She has one intent - find the scoundrel and make him pay back what he owes her. If only she can convince the bounty hunter to assist her.

Jared Newman has no intent on trying to follow the trail of the disappeared almost-groom, nor does he want someone tagging along after him. What he desires is retribution for the murder of his loved ones. A woman will only slow him down and distract him from his goal.

Robin Lee Hatcher created a great tale of the importance of allowing God to dole out justice. True redemption can only be found in Him. The Heart's Pursuit is a great read.

Westerns...man how I love this genre for many reasons. Not that I believe living during that time was all roses or characters were like the writers craft their fictional creations. My Nana was a huge fan of Louis L'Amour, which I have inherited and read. Each novelist brings a story to life mainly through the use of the wonderful gift of imagination that God has blessed them with, and then they share stories with us. Robin Lee Hatcher's recent novel was just the right amount of romance, adventure, and action with a touch of realistic characters in different situations.

The Heart's Pursuit is easily enjoyed in an afternoon of reading in one's favorite chair with a cold iced tea or whatever, perhaps sitting outside enjoying the beauty of the day. Time seemed to have flown by as I was lost in the two main characters, Silver Matlock and Jared Newman. Silver is the older of two daughters who is strong-willed, knows her own mind and occasionally rushes head long into trouble. Jared is a man bent on a single mission, to exact revenge upon an unseen assailant who stole the life of his parents and little sister.

Now, they are both on the trail to capture Silver's ex-fiancé who not only left her at the altar, but also stole her parent's money that was going to pay off debts. Jared is hired as a bounty hunter by Silver to capture the ex-fiancé before he spends the money that unless returned will make her family destitute.

Robin Lee Hatcher is one of my favorite authors whose many tales I have enjoyed before and can now include this novel in my collection. I liked the tension the author built into the plot line that was running on a couple of different fronts. There was a constant chase and almost coming close to catching the man who took her parents life savings. Another form of tension is between Silver and Jared as they have to come to a place each within their own hearts of being open to love.

The novel was a nicely paced and gentle story to read with an ability to place the marker in the book if need be, and then know right where I was when I resumed. The reason for this is because the chapters were short, making it easy to take a break if need be. This is an enjoyable, well-written western adventure that will leave the audience waiting for the next story that flows from the pen of Robin Lee Hatcher. Perhaps the next book cover the publisher uses will be better suited to the tale.

Silver Matlock couldn't seem to do anything right. To her, this thought was most apparent when her fiancé, Ben Cassidy, left her standing alone at the alter. To make matters worse, he had emptied her family's safe. Now, she doesn't know how her father will ever make the mortgage payment to the bank for their store and home. Feeling both guilty and angry because she was the one who had shown Ben the safe; Silver hires a bounty hunter to help her find him. Will Jared help her track Ben down to find what was lost?

Jared Newman has been tracking a murderer for seven years. After his parents and his sister Katrina were brutally killed, he vowed to find the man responsible, no matter the cost or how long it would take. Since he had only one clue to the man's identity it's been a long, hard battle to bring him to justice, but he wasn't about to give up. With his funds low he agreed to track down a thief for a gray-eyed beauty named Silver Matlock for a smaller sum than usual. That was the first clue that he had gone soft. The second clue was agreeing to let her accompany him while he tracked down the criminals. When a misunderstanding caused them to go their separate ways, Jared abandons his search to find Silver. Will he find her? Will they admit to their growing love for each other?

I found the The Heart's Pursuit, which is set in the old west in 1873, to be quite enjoyable. As the plot moved along the characters took on a life of their own, and the scenes were vivid in my mind. I didn't want to put the book down because of all that was happening between its pages.
