I have sat next to my 8yo this year as he has gone through these paces. They gently introduce the child to recognizing homonyms, homophones, prepositional phrases, parts of speech and other concepts, without getting too technical. I have 4 kids doing ACE and the longer we use this curriculum, the more impressed I am with the way concepts are gently introduced. Especially in the younger years, ACE retains the child's love and wonder without overwhelming them with too much jargon or work. It has been absolutely perfect for my son! He loves the comics too.

My 2nd grader completed ACE English this year. It was excellent. It teaches concepts in small chunks with lots of practice to create mastery. ACE is designed for children to teach themselves. I choose to still teach the concepts to my son first. Then he was able to complete the practice in the book. I also chose not to buy any answer keys for 2nd grade. I was easily able to check all of his work. There is a lot of writing that needs to be done in these books especially if your child is doing multiple subjects in ACE. I would sometimes have my son tell me the answers while I filled them in. This worked to give his hand a break. Overall, I am pleased with ACE and feel it taught him what he needed to know for 2nd grade grammar concepts.

Books over all are good. There is a lot of writing involved, and my son hates that. But they do let him work at his own speed. For the price, they are great.

i have used the paces for a couple of grades now, and it has become very obvious the longer i go that the english and math paces are not great. i dont mind the science or history, but there is not enough explaination or practice for the english or math. the nail in the coffin for me though is, one of the characters my kid has been introduced to is a little kid named "Pudge" who is depicted as overweight. this isn't ok. i dont want my kids to think this is ok. i have no issue with an overweight kid, i have an issue with all the other kids calling him "Pudge". its not kind.
