Sometimes I drastically underestimate God's grace. I imagine it as this flowery, soft feeling... to be graceful, to show grace... but it is also dogged and abounding. When I think I've gone too far, messed up too much, or done the unforgiveable, I am reminded of how utterly relentless grace is. God gives us the kind of grace we need when we need it.

I've read my share of Lucado's books throughout the years and this is a nice addition to them. This book focuses on our understanding God's grace and its presence everywhere. As usual with the author's books, there are plenty of stories and examples that offer hope to encourage and uplift the reader. Some are achingly sad and others are joyous, but there's grace in all of them. I am not, in general, a crier but I read this around Christmas time and so many of the stories just got to me.

One of my favorite quotes used in the book sums up my experience with God's grace: Lord, I crawled across the barrenness to you with my empty cup... if only I had known you better, I'd have come running with a bucket. —Nancy Spiegelberg

I'll be passing this book on to my friends. It was a grace to read it and it'll be a grace to pass it on.

(I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.)

This book gives an excellent picture of the limitless extent of God's saving and sustaining grace, coupled with the responsibility of the recipients of God's grace to extend grace to others. The author used examples from Scripture to illustrate different facets of God's grace: the woman taken in adultery, Barabbas, the Israelites' deliverance from Egypt, Jesus washing the disciples' feet, Ruth and Boaz, King David, the apostles Paul and Peter, etc. I gained a much greater appreciation of God's grace than I had before I read the book.
