Martin Parra5 Stars Out Of 5September 10, 2008Martin ParraThis commentary provides a thorough analysis of the Greek text of the Gospel of Luke and isgeared toward the serious reader of the New Testament who wants to understand the nuances and complexitiy of the Greek. Enormously learned, detailed in its textual, literary, redaction and tradition criticism, Marshall displays his customary grasp of the full rangeof contemporary scholarship and does excellentwork in putting forth the various positions held by numerous scholars; but he neverthelessis pointedly dismissive of twentieth century liberal criticism. The vast majority of his insights prove reliable, helpful, and incisive, however, in a thoroughly conventional vein. These features, together with the orderly manner in which the material is presented, render the book a valuable contribution for the understanding of the Gospel of Luke. Furthermore, if you want to find consistently conservative views on the authorship, dating and textual integrity, thenthis is the place to go.

David KilpatrickNorth Syracuse, NYAge: 45-54Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5Full of helpful informationJune 3, 2012David KilpatrickNorth Syracuse, NYAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This commentary is full of helpful information: linguistic, historical, textual, theological, etc. I almost gave it a 4 because of the very cramped format that is quite different from most commentaries (including others in this series).
If you can get past the dense format of the text, and you have some basic working knowledge of Greek, you will benefit from Marshall's learned and sober exegesis of Luke's Gospel. -
Peter Amu5 Stars Out Of 5July 21, 2001Peter AmuMarshall does a splendid job in his commentary giving the reader a better understanding of the theology of Luke through his meticulous analysis of the Greek. Even the devotional reader who does not know any Greek will be blessed by this volume for the detailed information it contains. This volume can be ranked alongside those by Geldenhuys, Godet and Plummer. I strongly recommend the reader to purchase this volume along with Marshalls Luke: Historian and Theologian also available from CBD # 5139.

Peter Amue5 Stars Out Of 5June 4, 2006Peter AmueI disagree with the reviewer of October 07, 2005, for this commentary is a must. See my review of July 21, 2001, for I still believe this to be one of the best on Luke, even surpassing the one by Bock. Buy it without any hesitation.
