Ruth. My favorite book of the Bible. It's no wonder when given a chance to read a book about her life, I snatched it up.

Liz Curtis Higgs' book, The Girl's Still Got It, is going to be released July 10, 2012.

I have never read any of Higgs' books before. Higgs goes into depth about what it might have been like for Ruth and the other characters in her story. The book includes discussion questions and a study guide. I also saw that there is a DVD available for purchase. It seems like this book would be fitting for a women's Bible study group.

Ruth continues to be my favorite book in the Bible. I appreciated Higgs' statement about the overall purpose of Ruth: "The book of Ruth is a crash course in Soverignty 101, with God whispering all through it, 'Trust me!'" (2).

Higgs does a great job of knowing the background of the culture.

This book was good, but I did not connect with her writing style very well.

Liz is an excellent story teller. AND she reminds us that she is fabricating some of the story, so people do not believe what is not in the BIble. She holds your attention and makes you laugh as you study.

"The Girl's Still Got It" breaks down the entire Biblical book of Ruth in an understandable and humorous way. It explains how the book of Ruth was first told orally from storytellers before it was recorded in the Bible. Each verse is explained to open up readers' minds to what the verse implies or might imply. At times it even shows comparisons of how different Bible translations differ with the wording in the book of Ruth. It also shows how the power of a good attitude affected Ruth and Naomi's lives. There are discussion questions and a study guide located at the back of the book to enhance individual and group learning.

The Biblical book of Ruth is a story that I have connected well with for many years and I was glad to come across this book after a long period of time of not studying the book of Ruth very closely. It was hard for me to read the book's humorous explanation of the book of Ruth as it was described at times because I've always looked at the book of Ruth more seriously. It appeared to me that this book was presented in the way that a storyteller would have told it orally, which I enjoyed. It opened my mind more to the book of Ruth in ways that it has not been opened before, for instance how some of the chapters in the book of Ruth opened and ended in completely opposite seasons of life, and how God can use anybody he wants to use for his good and glory. It also gave me peace of mind that Ruth was always a Moabite on the outside and what was most important is that she became a person of God on the inside.

I recommend this book for people who connect well with the book of Ruth, or want to connect better with it.

I like how Higgs breaks down the verses in Ruth and what was actually happening at that time and what the verse was trying to reflect, she goes through each verse and reflects on the surroundings, thoughts, fears and emotions, etc.

I have read the book of Ruth a few times and never got out of it what I got out of this book by Liz. I could not wrap my mind around how Ruth must have felt when the time came to give all she had ever know and was familiar to her up, as I am sure allot of us would in today's world.

I enjoyed this book immensely and would recommend it to individuals as well as group studies. Through the book we go with Ruth from Moab to Bethlehem with her mother-in-law Naomi. But what they don't know is they are going to come together in a way they never thought possible. Great read!

When I was given the opportunity to review "The Girl's Still Got It" by Liz Curtis Higgs, I jumped at the chance. I have read multiple books by Higgs in the past and she has never disappointed me.

This book is the story of Ruth. Higgs uses several translations of the Bible to go through each individual verse of the book of Ruth in the Bible. She methodically goes through each verse (and sometimes every single word in the verse) to make this book very plain to the reader. I personally love the book of Ruth, and so I loved delving a bit deeper into it. The only problem I had with this book is that Higgs uses a lot of poetic license. She sometimes puts words into the mouths of the characters.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book. Higgs has such a way of drawing you into her books, making scriptures fun and easy to understand. I would definitely recommend this book (and Bible study) to others.

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
