    The Girl's Still Got It

    By Liz Curtis Higgs

Moabite, Gentile, widow, childless, idol worshiper becomes Israelite, Jewess, mother, God worshiper. Reads like a juicy tabloid headline.... Meet Ruth, great grandmother of King David. The glorious story of her redemption is written in just 4 short chapters of the Bible, but has remained for ages to foretell our salvation through Jesus.

I loved getting to know the characters in the book of Ruth and I gained a better understanding of all the "goings ons" in this short Old Testament. The writing style mixes fact with what-probably-happened-in-the-meantime fiction. This book made the Biblical account much more real to me. I can now see the emotion and the subtleties of Ruth's story that before I had always missed. I'm so glad the author included multiple Biblical translations of phrases throughout the book to help me gain a greater understanding of the text. Liz Curtis Higgs also includes the stories of modern day ladies who mirror the characters in the book of Ruth. I'll admit that I'm definitely challenged to better love my mother-in-law by Ruth's shining example!!! This would be a great book for several friends to read, study, and discuss. It has both a "light" version and an "in depth" version of study questions at the back to fit the study needs of one or many. I give this book an A — great read alone or with friends.

PS — New favorite phrase: "Kinsman-Redeemer." Just gives me the tingles. Read the book to find out more!!

I was given a free eBook version of this book by the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

This is a great refreshing new look at the wonderful book of Ruth. I really enjoyed how the story and scripture was woven throughout the entire book. I didn't even realize I was basically doing a Bible study until the end and there was a study guide! The book is very easy to read and has a great flow that really allows you to understand what's really going on in the book of Ruth. I also appreciated the real life quotations at the end of each chapter that put into perspective how real life relates to what we can learn from Ruth and Naomi and Boaz. This is a great way to study the book of Ruth. I really recommend it.

I received this free from blogging for books in exchange for my review.

Still hot off the presses, Liz Curtis Higgs' "The Girl's Still Got It: Take a Walk with Ruth and the God Who Rocked Her World," is the newest book from the author of several hilariously insightful studies on the 'bad girls of the Bible.' This particular work takes readers back in time for an eyewitness view of the events happening in the time of Ruth and allows us to delve into the characters of Orpah, Ruth, Naomi, Boaz alongside the townspeople of Bethlehem and the potential kinsmen redeemer not mentioned by name. As with Higgs' other works, "The Girl's Still Got It" is overflowing with historical tidbits, Jewish culture and customs, Hebrew word study, personal experience, and lots of laughter.

This book would be absolutely perfect for a group meeting (not just one for women either!) with the included discussion questions and makes a great Bible Study tool on the book of Ruth as it also has a fabulous study guide included. I read the entire book through in one evening so it's quite the past-paced, 'novel' type read. I think the part I enjoyed the most, and, when I read it through again, will complete was the introspective study guide questions which tie Ruth to the New Testament (several of which would make great sermons or lessons with a bit of research!). A definite recommend read for any and everyone!

For just a sample of the many treasures inside, here are a couple of my favorite lines: "When God is on the move, He invariably leaves footprints" (pg 100) and "Maybe that's the simplest definition of faith: sitting tight. Waiting without fretting. Trusting without second-guessing. Believing without demanding proof" (pg 140). Great stuff!

What if you discovered that God not only cares for every detail of your life, but that He also has events mapped out in your life that will bring you greater joy than you've ever known? What if God didn't just sit on the sidelines cheering you on, but played an integral role in your life? What if you let God take control of your life and became obedient to His calling in your life? Would you discover, like Ruth and Naomi, that God really did have your best interests in mind when He allowed certain events to take place in your life?

Hard questions but just take a look at the book of Ruth. Liz Curtis Higgs has a knack for transforming a biblical account into a valuable learning experience. In her new book, "The Girl's Still Got It", readers follow Ruth as she travels to Moab, loses the most important people in her life, and travels back to Bethlehem with her daughter-in-law Naomi. Ruth's life story is an exciting look into how God works in His people's lives.

With humor and remarkable insight, Higgs shows us that Ruth and Naomi are no different from you and me. We all walk through difficult trials in life, struggle with God's intent and purpose in allowing them to touch our life, and discover should we stick close to Him that He loves us and takes care of us even in those times when He seems distant and aloof.

Liz Curtis Higgs is a popular conference speaker and author. She lives with her family in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Book of Ruth is absolutely one of my favorite books of the Bible. I have read Ruth many times and I always find something new within the pages that I had not noticed before. When I got the chance to review "The Girl's Still Got It" by Liz Curtis Higgs, I jumped at the chance! I am glad I did.

I have read a few of Liz Curtis Higgs' books which include, Bad Girls of the Bible and Really Bad Girls of the Bible and I enjoyed reading them. I knew The Girl's Still Got It would not disappoint me and it did not.

Liz Curtis Higgs has put a different "spin" on the Book of Ruth. You not only "read" about Ruth and Naomi, you "live" each moment of their life. Step by step you walk along with them on their journey. Liz Curtis Higgs does an incredible job of allowing you to live each moment of their lives and their journey with God.

She breaks down each verse of the Book of Ruth. She writes in such a way that you can see your life within the pages. Many times I would sit back and reflect on my life. Moments like when I first met my mother and law and how "scared" I was at first. How my walk with God has "evolved" from the moment I accepted Christ as my Savior until now. I related to so many aspects of this book. I saw my life within the pages.

I liked at the end of each chapter there is a section entitled "Ruth in Real Life" where real women share moments of their lives which go along with the chapter. Liz Curtis Higgs also allows us a "glimpse" into her life as well. There is a Bible study at the end of the book which is awesome! There are so many parts of the book that I liked that I can not list them all. My advice to you is to buy the book and see for yourself.

As Liz Curtis Higgs so beautifully said, "Even thirty-two centuries later, her shining example of boldness and faithfulness still blows us away". Yes, Mrs. Curtis Higgs, Ruth still blows me away and your book allowed me to walk along her journey step by step. Thank you for writing such a wonderful and beautiful book. Who would think a book of the Bible written so many centuries ago would have such an impact on many lives. It has impacted mine and I know it has impacted many others.
