**SPOILER ALERT!**The movie's case said "not rated," so prior to watching it, I searched for reviews to see whether we should allow our 10yo & our 12.5yo to watch. I was unable to find a review that helped. A few mentioned it was suitable for "older" kids or "teens," & I still wasn't sure about my kids. Now that we have finished watching it, I decided to post a review for others wondering if it's appropriate for their kids. Our 10yo left the room during intense scenes. In the one scene, teenage Ben gets mouthy w/ his mom & they start screaming at each other. In the heat of his anger, he picks up a hammer & goes after his mother. His older brother steps in & Ben does not hit her. Then, he gets in a fight w/ a boy at school, & Ben thrusts a knife into his stomach. Fortunately, the blade must have hit the belt buckle & breaks w/o injuring him. (Ben runs home & asks the Lord to take away his anger.) (Also, I believe this scene has the 1 bad word I recall from the movie, H-ll.)There are 2 mentions of "killing myself." The mother of conjoined twins admits when she learned they were conjoined, she thought about killing herself, but she realized that would kill 3 people. The other mention is when Ben's mother goes to a psychiatrist, admitting she is depressed & that she has had suicidal thoughts. Ben's mother tells the psychiatrist she married at 13 & a few years later found out that her husband was already married w/ children.Ben was a child of the 60s, so there are prejudices & racial slurs he had to go through. The movie shows Ben's wife, 5 mo. pregnant w/ twins, waking him in the night, saying she had to go to the hospital & it shows blood on the sheets b/w her legs. She miscarries.Although I have focused on the negatives (so others can judge if their kids are old enough to watch), we felt it was an excellent movie which prompts much discussion. I would not hesitate to recommend it, but I would warn others of the items mentioned here.

Really great movie - highly recommend. Amazing man and mother. And accurate details for a true story which is a bonus since often the 'artistic license' the writers/directors/producers take distorts the true stories, so I really enjoyed this aspect of it also.

This is a very well presented and compelling adaptation of Dr. Ben Carson's biography of the same name. Here the cast captures the essence of the God driven, Christ centered, amazing story of the fatherless, angry, impoverished Ben Carson's rise from that "deprived" childhood to becoming one of the most accomplished surgeons and Americans in our country and the world's history. Here, the love, faith and determination of Ben's faith driven mother formed a foundation for the living proof of Ephesians 3:20, "[He] is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we ask or think, according to the power that works in us." Parents/Grandparents, show this to your children/grandchildren and have them read the book (I did).

Wonderful. Have shown it to several people and everyone has liked it. Shows what can be done if you have the courage to follow your instincts.
