Wow! Amy sure knows how to grab your attention! Just when I opened the book, thinking Im going to begin reading about how she donated one of her kidneys so her husband could receive a donated kidney from another source, instead Im drawn into her account of when she was in a car accident, involving not one, but two tractor trailers!
Whoa! Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place Amy was caught between two tractor trailers.
It was a miracle that she left the hospital a few hours later, with no broken bones only painful bruises and a few cuts and scrapes. Amy believes it was no coincidence; it was divine intervention. God was watching out for her and her kidneys so a few years later she could donate one of her kidneys and help to save her husbands life.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to read this book. Amy goes back and describes how she grew up and how she met Joe, her husband, and his health issues.
It is an amazing story the terrible moments they shared, the pain, the harsh realities, and when Joe experienced good health after the second transplant, the joys they shared as a family once again.
If you cannot buy this book, get a copy at your local public library, and read it. I finished it, praising God and thanking Him for answering their prayers.
And if you feel led consider being a blood donor and/or an organ donor. Im a registered organ donor (upon my death) and Im surprised at people who dont want to donate organs when they die. This is something you can do when you no longer need your organs, and they could make a huge difference in the lives of others.
Amy, Im praying with you, for Joe (and for your donor recipient) to continue experiencing good health for their kidneys to last a good, long time (30 years sounds about right).
I was blessed to receive a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is an exceptional story and one you do NOT want to miss!

The Gift of Love, written by Amy Clipston, is the memoir of her journey of caretaker and organ donor. The devastating news of her husband's illness happened soon after there marriage. This is a story about waiting. Waiting on God. Waiting for Him to answer. Waiting for Him to move. This deep pit that the entire family went through was tremendous. Just when you think it's getting better, more downward spirals. But through it all God gives wisdom and guidance and the body of Christ.
But as Mrs. Clipston reminds us in the story, God is the sustainer of their faith. As I read this book, you could feel the emotion jump off the pages. The author is real and authentic. Emotions range from depression to anger and back to trust. These are the stories that make me once again thankful for trials.
James 1:2-4 reminds us that the trials in our lives are producing in us the endurance that will aim others to glorify God. This is the story of the Clipston's lives.

The 200-plus pages of this book make for a very quick read. The story is written in such a way that leaves you feeling like you've just sat down and had a long conversation with a friend. Amy comes across as very honest about the details -- big and small -- and her feelings -- good and bad. The story shows real people, with real problems and real questions, persevering with real faith. Their journey is an inspiration for others to press on while waiting for God to work things out in His timing.
The Gift of Love is a touching story sure to be enjoyed by fans of Amy's Amish fiction and by anyone affected by severe illness or organ donation.

WandaNCAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5An Inspiring Read!April 6, 2014WandaNCAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Gift of Love is a biography/memoir that takes you into the life of Amy Clipston from her family's history to helping save her husband's life through the paired kidney exchange program. From her struggle to overcome a miscarriage to her struggle with being her husband's caregiver. Amy's husband, Joe, was diagnosed with membranous glomerulopathy, which often progresses to renal failure. Joe desperately needed a kidney transplant and once Amy found out about the paired kidney exchange program she was determined to help save Joe by donating one of her kidneys to someone else in need. Amy really digs deep to share her emotional struggles and the toll Joe's kidney disease had on their entire family. Raising two kids, taking care of Joe and her father's failing health was very stressful and a constant battle for Amy. I could really feel her frustration at the disease and her emotional turmoil. Between working to pay the bills and worrying that Joe wouldn't receive a kidney was a strain on Amy, both physically and mentally. I love that she turned to God and trusted in Him to make sure everything was taken care of. She displayed a strong faith during their darkest hours and I find that to be uplifting and encouraging. It gave me the hope that if they can go through this horrible struggle and come out better than they were before, then, so can I. Amy also talks about her writing career and how difficult it was to get established as an author. I really enjoyed delving into Amy's life and sharing in her daily highs and lows. Anyone that has ever suffered from a serious disease, not just membranous glomerulopathy, will enjoy reading this book. It lets you know you're not alone. I also think it will prove helpful for anyone with kidney disease or issues as far as the medical treatment and aspect goes. You can definitely learn about some things you might no have previously known. I highly recommend this book!

It's a heartfelt tribute to a marriage that has survived not only two kidney transplants, but a host of other challenges that would make anyone of us flinch and crawl under a bed for the duration. Clipston may have flinched a time or two, but she dug in her heels and refused to give up on her marriage and her family.
Clipston tells her story in a simple, honest voice. She doesn't sugarcoat her own moments of doubt, anger, and weakness, lay blame, or give readers platitudes to make us feel better about our own troubles. At times, I felt as if I were sitting at a friend's kitchen table, drinking iced tea, and listening to her pour out her heart. I tried to imagine keeping the romance alive in my marriage with both parents living in my home, one in failing health. I cried over blows achingly familiar to ones I've experienced myself. I cheered when joy resurfaced, as it always did.
Ultimately, The Gift of Love is the story of how a wife's love for her husband allows them both to triumph over adversity. Clipston's journey isn't over, but I have no doubt her gift of love is the gift that keeps on giving.
