We all experience them. Mountaintop experiences — those times in our lives when everything is at its peak, everything fits, everything clicks, our faith is at an all-time high. And then, inevitably, it happens. A hard and unexpected blow knocks us from the summit and down we fall, not knowing when we'll land or if we'll come out with faith still alive.

For the mysterious beauty dubbed "Jade," this isn't just a metaphor. Knocked into a state of amnesia at the base of a Hawaiian waterfall, all she can remember is a compelling urge to survive, to follow the life-giving stream of water no matter how treacherous it may seem. But then ... there is another force that compels her, a different source of life-giving water. A need to call out to a Divine Savior whom she senses she somehow knows intimately. In her search to re-discover who she is, will Jade possibly revitalize a strong faith that had begun to fall?

Or is her life, as fraud investigator Cameron Pierce initially suspects, just one big lie? Could she be a con artist who can't remember her last target? Maybe that would explain her aversion to seeking police help ...

Yet Cameron's opinion of her seems to shift as steadily as the waves of the sea. And maybe, just maybe, she was sent to bring him out of his own freefall.

This is the first book I've read from Kristen Heitzmann, and I must say, it won't be the last. Her snappy wit and breathtaking descriptions along with a knack at weaving in new plot twists amidst the romance and intrigue will keep you turning pages.

This is my favorite Heitzmann novel so far! The characters are well-developed and 3-dimensional. The sprinkling of Hawaiian throughout the novel adds color and authenticity to the story, yet it was a bit distracting when there wasn't an obvious translation provided. Our main character is a famous actress who has lost her memory only to wander into the life of a woman with a heart to help and her skeptical brother. As her memory returns, the plot thickens and her relationship with these new friends continues to build. Watching the characters deal with extreme life-changing circumstances is both inspiring and educational. The twists and turns in the plot keep the pages turning. Kristen masterfully pours her characters' inner feelings onto the page making the romance intense. She also presents beautiful moments where Christian values triumph over worldly ones. This is a wonderful, suspenseful Christian romance!

Freefall is a great novel. Ms Heitzmann starts this book with a victim of amnesia, not knowing how or why she is where she is, or if it really was a accident. We go through her suffering in trying to find out what happened. Jade will come to find who she is and that THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY HAS HER IN THE PALMS OF HIS HANDS and he will show her his plans for her. Hope that there is another sequel to this book, would like to see more about the characters in this novel.

Right off the bat like an action packed movie, you are thrown into the waterfall with her...read on to find out how did it happen? A twist of romantic clashing keeps me reading. Ah, the laid back ways of the islands, the food.... Can't she remember? The police will never believe her, she doesn't even know who she is. It's so suspenseful! It's so good!!!

Published in 2006 this book is, in a word, mesmerizing. A layered tale of truth and deceit and how they affect relationship. The suspense is enthralling...from the moment Jade staggers out of the jungle until the final resolution, Heitzmann expertly weaves an intriguing mix of clues around a heart-stirring romance. And, oh my, is it ever complicated! She breathes life into her characters. They are realistically flawed, plagued by unique insecurities that motivate their actions for good...or evil. I especially love the depth of connection to God seen in different characters. They don't always get it right but they keep trying. An uplifting and captivating read that I inhaled in one day.

And just because I can totally relate to this line from the book I feel the need to share: "...while he didn't look for God's hand in everything, he paid attention when it slapped him in the face." (p.141)
