tmurrellTNAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Another great book in the series!September 23, 2013tmurrellTNAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Glynna has just lost her husband. It certainly isn't a huge loss in her book. She's very thankful to be rid of the abusive, evil man. But now what is she supposed to do with two small children and a home that her husband stole from someone else? The Regulators are back again to rescue the downtrodden and oppressed.
I was really looking forward to this book after reading the first book in the series. Thankfully the author did not disappoint. The romance, mystery, and fun were all in the second book too. Since I read the first book it's harder for me to judge, but I feel this book can be read as a stand alone. But the first book is great, so I highly recommend reading it first. The characters are so fun and realistic. The plot has lots of action and keeps you wondering what will come next. Another home run by Mary Connealy that keeps her on my favorite author list.
I received this book free of charge from Bethany House in exchange for my honest review. -
Sue from MidwestMidwestAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5"Fired Up" about Trouble in TexasSeptember 20, 2013Sue from MidwestMidwestAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I received this book from Mary Connealy to review, and found I love it--this is another great read from one of my favorite authors.
There's trouble in Texas alright! From several sources-- an avalanche, fire, dangers, mystery, poor cooking, and muddled thoughts of love. What a delight to read Dare and Glynna's story. I love the characters in this bookâmost of whom I met in the series' first book: Swept Away. I am eager ("fired up"!) to read more about Luke and Dare's other friends and even more trouble in Texas. -

With his experience during the Civil War, he's worked under a doctor's care. But now he's flying solo in the huge state of Texas, and he is the only doctor for 200 miles in each direction. He feels like a fraud by saying he a medical professional, but it seems like people can't stop having accidents that require his help. Between the avalanche that threatened to take out a few of his friends, the fire in his home/medical office, and various other incidents he can't seem to get under control, it seems people can't stop getting sick or hurt. Will he ever be able to begin a new life? Or is he forever stuck as a sub-par doctor?
Glynna Greer has had anything but an easy life. She's been widowed for a second time, raising two children on her own, no money, no resources, or a place to stay. She doesn't even have a plan for the future. When the town's diner becomes short an owner, she becomes the town's only cook. As her cooking is nothing to sneeze at, the majority of the town's men end up at Dr. Riker's door with stomachaches on a daily basis. Clearly, cooking is not her calling, but there is nothing else she can do to make a living. Then her attraction to Dr. Riker is further complicating her life - especially since she promised her son, Paul, that she wouldn't remarry without his consent. How is she going to fix everything that is wrong in her world? And will her children ever feel safe again?
This is a historical romantic comedy that I will never feel guilty about reading. It was just the kind of novel that you start reading hoping that it's good, and end up loving by the bottom of the first page. With Fired Up, you're going to get more than just a warm fuzzy feeling in the cockles of your heart; you're going to get an amazing story, an adventure that rivals any literary journey you've ever taken, and characters that will stay with you forever. Contrary to the popular belief that romantic comedies are for women; I highly recommend this to not only men, but even for the ladies that stay away from this genre.
This book was provided by the publisher through Litfuse Nest for free in exchange for an honest review. -

The Western genre is packed with adventure, drama and romance so expect that and more when reading this series. There are characters from Swept Away who continue in Fired Up along with the introduction of some new players.
Glynna Greer was saved from her abusive husband when he was confronted by the law, but rather than give up he decided to fight it out and lost. Refusing to return to the land Mr. Greer had stolen, Glynna had to find a way to make a living so she opened a diner. Dare Riker is the closest thing to a doctor the town has. He is busy taking care of those who ate at the diner. On top of that, Vince is the town's lawyer who is busy trying to keep someone from successfully killing his friend Dare. Jonas, who is also a close friend of Dare's, is expecting his sister to arrive in town. She is a real spitfire young lady who turns the town of Broken Wheel upside down!
I could tell you more of the story like about Lana who turns out to be the town's best cook and yet winds up in jail. There are even more parts of the story that will find you smiling and figuring out who it is that is trying to hurt Dare, but I don't want to ruin it for you. Mary Connealy has written a story that has a mix of romance, western flavor and colorful characters that will keep you reading till long after dark.
Here is a tale of learning to forgive as well as how far God has gone to redeem people; therefore, why people should forgive others as well. Does forgiveness equal trust? This is a question that has a couple of the characters wondering till the last page where the answer is shared by one of the players you would least expect.
It has been some time between when I read Swept Away and Fired Up, so it took a little bit for me to remember where book one left of and where the sequel picked up. The novel starts with danger and action as an avalanche has started and death is riding right on the heels of a wagon with children! Then, when Ruthy, who is married to Luke, begins getting sick at the smell of coffee what she has to be told Dare Riker just can't bring himself to say. Who does end up helping Ruthy to understand why the scent makes her sick? Read Swept Away followed by Fired up. You won't regret it! -
wfnrenSt Cloud, FLAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Another great book by Mary, loved this book.September 16, 2013wfnrenSt Cloud, FLAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Glynna Greer is opening up her diner and the Regulators are helping her move her things to town after saving her from a long painful life with her husband Flint Greer. The diner business is doing good even though her cooking makes everyone sick. Dare Riker, the doctor in the group of Regulators, is doing a good business though, thanks to her cooking. The men go to the diner just to look at the beautiful Glynna and won't give up eating her food.
As they are moving her things to town Glynna and Dare are just about killed by an avalanche, next Dare's house catches fire and he just about dies in that fire. Dare doesn't know but the rest of the Regulators decide someone is trying to kill him so they start standing watch on his house at night. They have at least two suspects, Glynna's son Paul and Lana Bullard, her husband was Flint's right hand man but had disappeared after her husband was killed. Lana holds Dare responsible for murdering her son and her husband and Paul doesn't want his mother to ever have anything to do with any man again after the way his father treated them and then Flint treated them even worse. Or it could be someone that is holding a grudge from when he was in the Andersonville prison during the Civil War.
I can understand why Paul feels the way he does and he's old enough to feel like he's responsible for his family now so he will do anything to keep his mother, his sister and himself safe from ANY man. Lana has her reasons, but does she really? People and their grudges, some just can't seem to get rid of them. It is so much better if you can forgive, and that's for yourself, not the one you're forgiving.
I love Mary's books and she didn't fail me with this one. Just another one I can add to my favorite list!
