Robin PraterMissouriAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Colorado never looked better!!!April 16, 2011Robin PraterMissouriAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5All Christ needs is for one ember to burn for His light to shine. Family, faith, and over coming great obstacles is what the Timmons family is all about. John is the oldest brother who has taken over the family ranch, in Colorado, after the death of their father. Having younger brothers is not always easy, especially if love for the same girl comes between them. Out of no where, Bert, shows up. Beaten, bruised, and ready to hang. After being saved, Bert, comes to live with the Timmons and quickly understands the real meaning of family. Something, Bert, never had. There is much to Bert. Throughout the story we gather more and more. I must say, I had a hard time keeping this book out of the hands of my husband, long enough for me to read it for review!
This Historical/Romance is so much more. It is has adventure, as cattle rustlers are up to no good and all people are not quite what they seem, even if we attend church together. Going to church does not make one a Christian.
One of my favorite characters is Leah, the mother, of all these boys. What an honorable woman. A woman full of wisdom and laughter. A woman serving the Lord in all she does. She takes, Bert, under her wing and leads this young person to believe there are good in others.
I cannot wait for DiAnn's next book, A Woman Called Sage, to come out. DiAnn makes the 1800's look adventurous and her attention to detail brings us to know and understand the heart of each character. I absolutely loved this book!!
This book was a gift from Zondervan for it's review. -

When responsible rancher John Timmons rescues "Bert" Farrar from being hanged as a horse thief, he takes the boy home to work off the debt. But what will John do when he finds out that Bert is really a girl? And will Ember Farrar repay his kindness by stealing his cattle---or his heart?
This book is one of the best books I have read by Diann Mills. From the beginning of the story, the characters in this book make you feel like you are there.
Bert (Ember) is saved from hanging from a hangman's noose by John Timmons and he thinks that Ember is a boy but actually is a girl. I loved from the start how Leah (John Timmons mother) just helped Bert along, she is a very good Christian and you can tell that also. I loved the part also where she accepted Jesus as her savior. As the story goes, Evan and John fall for Ember but she only loves one of them.
I would definitely suggest this book to everyone, especially if you like the West in which I do. I just thoroughly loved it and didn't want it to end. Thank you, Diann Mills for another GREAT book. -
Jo Huddleston5 Stars Out Of 5Another winner from MillsFebruary 5, 2011Jo HuddlestonQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Trying to right a wrong by her ruthless brothers, Ember attempts to return their stolen horse. Her good deed repays her with accusation of horse thieving and she is about to be hanged. Deputy John Timmons disrupts the hanging, rescues who he's told is a young boy named Bert. John takes Bert home to his mother and four brothers, tells Bert he must work on their farm four months for her horse stealing. When the boys prepare for their weekly bath in the creek, Bert must confess that she's a seventeen-year-old girl, which causes John emotions he's never experienced. John's mother takes Bert under her protective wing, knowing there must be more to Bert than Bert is willing to share. When cattle rustlers invade the area, Bert is suspected to be involved because of the secrecy she holds within her. Bert, whose real name is Ember, and the Timmons family reel from twists and turns until the end of the book. Especially when two of the Timmons boys fall for her. Strong characters and plausible plot. Another winner from Mills.
