From the publisher: U.S. Marshal Jake Taylor has seen plenty of action during his years in law enforcement. But he'd rather go back to Iraq than face his next assignment: protection detail for federal judge Liz Michaels, former wife of his late best friend.

Hannon's story about a US Marshal and a federal judge whose life is in danger is a well-done story. Widow and widowers with secrets always make for sympathetic characters, and when you put them together, add guns and a body count along with special touches of the dark side of reality, Fatal Judgment unfolds with the bet of the romantic thrillers. But for a bit of a slow mo before the assassin gets directly involved with the judge, I loved this story. Hannon did an excellent job with her characters whose inevitable romance unfolds with all the depth of emotion and self-examination, alibis, and patriotic dedication to making life better a reader could want.

Contemporary, up-to-date, tasteful on the technology and terms without overloading or trying to impress the reader, Fatal Judgment will satisfy both the romantic and the suspense-seeking reader. We grieve from the start when an assassination attempt on Judge Michaels goes very wrong, and are pulled into the professionalism of the US Marshal Taylor who must keep his past impressions and exhaustion in check when he is called to duty. As the marshal realizes how ill his best friend has been before his apparent suicide, he is able to see how much Liz suffered at his hands. When the judge, Liz, has no choice but to submit to round-the-clock surveillance, she works with the marshals to uncover her mysterious threat while questioning the wisdom of letting anyone close to her heart again. A real tear-jerking scene is Taylor's revelation of the day of his wife's death and how it affected him.

We rejoice when Taylor overcomes his prejudice against Liz and when Michaels forgives those who wrong her.

Hannon shows the soft side of professionals who realize that faith is the ultimate motivation for any action, be it for selfishness or for good. Her touches of prayer and reasons to return to faith never preach and are a subtle presence throughout this story.

What a ride this book is!! If you love Dee Henderson, you will love Irene Hannon. She is awesome at bringing the reader in and bringing life to a story. Jake Taylor is someone I would love to meet. He is a U.S Marshal. He has been through war and knows the pain of loss. Jake was widowed by his young wife and has struggled to move forward. He has returned to St. Louis and is now watching over, Liz Michaels, a federal judge, who is in danger. Liz is a workaholic who has kept much of her life a secret. Her sister has been murdered and now the killer might be after Liz. The Marshall's are on a hunt to find the killer and Jake is ready to protect Liz at all costs. But, a few short years before she was married to his best friend. A friend who has died and Jake isn't sure of the details of his death. He is harboring resentful feelings toward Liz, but that is because of what his best friend has shared over the years. Does she have another story to tell? As Jake is protecting Liz, he too is protecting his heart. He is beginning to see her beauty and is questioning all that resides in his heart. This book is filled with suspense and romance. This book holds so much!! Forgiveness, letting go and moving forward. As both these characters try to release themselves of yesterday's pain we get the front row seat in watching God move in their lives bringing peace and new beginnings.

Warning! This book is fatally hazardous to ones sleep! True to the description on the back of the book, the book keeps the reader turning the pages long, long, long into the night. Each turn of the page brings fast paced suspenseful crime blended with tender romance. It lasts through out the book (starting immediately from the first sentence!) until the very last page. Thus, the fatal hazard to the readers sleep. You will NOT be able to, or even want to, put it down. And, the good thing is, this is book 1 in Hannon's newest series, Guardians of Justice, so we will get more of this awesome crime drama!

The characters in this book are all unique in their own way, each with their own struggles, and I fell in love with each one of them. This book, and it's wonderfully molded characters, absolutely gripped me and pulled me directly into the plot. I felt on many occasions that I, myself, was Judge Michaels, and it was I whom the killer was intent on killing! My heart pounded with all the action and each new twist in the case of fatal judgement was definitely edge-of-seat, breath gasping material!

While I connected with Liz, it was Jake Taylor that really stood out and pulled me in. His devotion to his cases, his love for those around him, really stood out. His meaningful character was the depth of this awesome story, especially as he learned to rely on God wholly once again!

I definitely, hands down, recommend this better-than-TV-crime-dramas book. Five stars and then some, you'll fall in love with Hannon's faith-filled, romantic, action packed novels. And, if you're already a Hannon fan, this is a MUST, MUST, MUST read to add to your shelves!

When U.S. Marshall Jake Taylor finds himself assigned to a new case, he is shocked to find out that the federal judge he is assigned to is the widow of his best friend from college. A shooting in Judge Liz Matthews' home has left her sister dead, and the U.S. Marshalls and the FBI wondering if the shooting was a sad case of mistaken identity. Was the real target the Judge?

Dealing with the feelings that he has towards the Judge, Jake finds that maybe all the information he had been given about his best friend Doug's wife, might not be all factual, in fact the more he learns of Liz Matthews and observes her, he cannot seem to place that information to what he has been told and what he is seeing first hand.

Dealing with his own guilt and grief from his own wife's death four years earlier, Jake recognizes that the feelings he has for Liz is turning into something that he is not sure about, but positive he must explore further.

Irene Hannon once again brings us her wonderful talent in the suspense genre. A suspense packed story you will not want to put down! 328 pages US $14.99 5 stars
