I have never had cancer, but I'm very glad I read this book. The first ten chapters or so were a good read, with good thoughts, but chapter eleven was eye-opening. Some relevant quotes: "we must always keep in mind that God doesn't need us to pray to him; he wants us to pray because he knows we need it"; "The truth is, apart from the Holy Spirit, we flat out don't know what we should pray for!"; "the Holy Spirits's role is to get us to want what God wants and then ask for it....when we're unsure if our request is right we can simply ask for the Holy Spirit to direct our hearts. We can pray for the Spirit to reveal God's will to us."
As an addict in recovery I have been taught this (and taught this...and taught this again!) but I suddenly saw, it's not just the "selfish addict" who cannot trust their own will and must accept God's will. It's all of us! Everyone!
In Raw Faith author Kasey Van Norman tells about her battle with cancer and the faith that she needed to get through it. She included journal entries and Bible passages to prove that even when things look dark God is always faithful.
Raw Faith was not a book that I found easy to read because it is the story of a woman who had to come to terms with trusting God while battling cancer. The author retold her story with all the gritty details of her struggles with her diagnosis as well as how having cancer affected her faith in God. The book is also packed with many Bible verses that remind readers that God is always faithful, He is in control, and He has a reason for the struggles and hardships that His children face in life. The author used her hardships to encourage her readers, that no matter what they are going through in life, God is trustworthy and He will get us through them in a way that our faith will become stronger if we continue walking in Him. Though the authors story was hard to read, I did find this book to be a great testimony of faith.
Inspirational story with guidelines on how to make it through a struggle and keep holding onto faith in God. Although the author deals with her battle with cancer it can apply to any struggle you are facing. We have all been at that moment where we can't believe God would let something happen and we have to use our faith to be strong and make it to the other side. Beautifully written and easy to read and follow.
