VetiverAge: 35-44Gender: Female4 Stars Out Of 5Eye-opening readNovember 7, 2014VetiverAge: 35-44Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have never had cancer, but I'm very glad I read this book. The first ten chapters or so were a good read, with good thoughts, but chapter eleven was eye-opening. Some relevant quotes: "we must always keep in mind that God doesn't need us to pray to him; he wants us to pray because he knows we need it"; "The truth is, apart from the Holy Spirit, we flat out don't know what we should pray for!"; "the Holy Spirits's role is to get us to want what God wants and then ask for it....when we're unsure if our request is right we can simply ask for the Holy Spirit to direct our hearts. We can pray for the Spirit to reveal God's will to us."
As an addict in recovery I have been taught this (and taught this...and taught this again!) but I suddenly saw, it's not just the "selfish addict" who cannot trust their own will and must accept God's will. It's all of us! Everyone!

bookwormPennsylvaniaAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5More than just a book about FaithAugust 13, 2014bookwormPennsylvaniaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4This review was written for Raw Faith: What Happens When God Picks a Fight.Raw Faith was not a book that I found easy to read because it is the story of a woman who had to come to terms with trusting God while battling cancer. The author retold her story with all the gritty details of her struggles with her diagnosis as well as how having cancer affected her faith in God. The book is also packed with many Bible verses that remind readers that God is always faithful, He is in control, and He has a reason for the struggles and hardships that His children face in life. The author used her hardships to encourage her readers, that no matter what they are going through in life, God is trustworthy and He will get us through them in a way that our faith will become stronger if we continue walking in Him. Though the authors story was hard to read, I did find this book to be a great testimony of faith.

Bought 2 and gave one to a friend fighting her own battle with cancer. Now that I've almost completed my copy, I'm glad I had the 2nd copy to gift to my friend.

She tells of her struggles with faith, depression, and treatment. I really liked the uplifting scriptures that was included. I think it is definitely a must read for those who have been diagnosed with cancer, their families, and survivors.
