I truly believe God put this book in front of me last month. The only thing I'm disappointed about is that I bought this in digital form because what I wanted to do, about half way through, was hurry up and finish the book so that I could start making changes to my own journey and put this book in the hands of my friends. I did, in fact, buy a copy for one friend, and then tell several others they needed to read this. You will have no doubt that Mr Adams is truly listening to God when his words touch you personally, and the stories relate to your life. While I'm sure we can agree that we are all works in progress, Kevin Adams shows how he came to live a life that people can look at and see "Christ" instead of merely "Christian." After posting quote after quote from The Extravagant Fool on my social media pages, I finally just started telling people (including my pastor), "Go get this book!"

In a world where the term "Christian" seems to have remarkably little "Christ" in it, and far too much religion, to find someone, anyone, willing to break out of the dogmatic, shallow mold that religion creates and venture into the very nebulous area of faith is indeed someone to take notice of. Trite, pithy, empty Christian-ese you won't find in this book. You won't find cute bumper-sticker slogans, easy spiritualized 'get-out-of-jail-free' cards, no charlatan tricks to pray down the life you've always wanted. What you WILL get is an very open and raw look at the costs and rewards of breaking out of the religious mold and into the life of a genuine follower and disciple of Jesus Christ.

The road to victorious faith isn't paved with name-it-claim-it Christianity... it's paved by people willing to take God at His word, willing to lay down their own agendas and time tables... people who are willing to allow discomfort and suffering to birth spiritual triumph. Its long, painful, dusty and wearying, but eternally worth every bit of pain. Kevin's book opens up a whole new thought process devoid of empty religion and full of genuine worship and sacrifice. Real faith - the kind found through trials that seem like real-life Garden of Gethsemane moments where you either submit to God's will even at the cost of the death of all that your flesh desires, or you walk away and continue to live a trite, empty feel-good religion. Kevin's story pushes you past easy, empty, feel-good Christianity and provokes you to contemplate the deeper calling to live as people of faith, forces you to wrestle with the notion of an empirically GOOD God who allows hurt and suffering for purpose, who calls us to give up things we love to receive things so great that we never thought we could attain to them.

I had to re-read certain sections because my knee-jerk reaction was to shake my fist at life's unfairness, only to be brought back to the faith that can see a tapestry being woven through so many straggling, disparate cords. This book challenges you to drop the charade, to drop the "comfort zones" of lukewarm Christianity and to plunge head-first off the cliff of faith, not blindly or stupidly, but foolishly (in the eyes of the world) based solely on the character and person of God. It can radically transform your own faith walk. It's very much challenging my conceptions and spiritual paradigms, much as Kevin's blog, "Wake Up My Faith" has challenged them consistently for a few years now. This book needs to be read and reread. It's very worth the purchase!

I just finished reading this inspired book and am ready to begin reading it again so the truths on the pages can sink even deeper! I was not surprised to be drawn into Kevin's story from the very first page, but I was surprised to find myself looking deeper into my own faith. Have I fully comprehended the difference between complete surrender and commitment? Do I allow myself to be still and wait on my Loving Father's voice to direct each step? Do I really believe that He loves me? These are just a few of the questions that I have pondered as I savor the transparent words in each chapter of The Extravagant Fool. This book is a rare jewel, where the author does not attempt to give a "recipe" for living but instead encourages the reader to discover the truth that God does not desire to produce "cookie cutter" faith in His children. I am encouraged that I have a Loving Father who longs to lead me and provide for my every need. He desires to create beauty from the ashes of discouragement, failures, painful mistakes...Every person needs to read this book and share it with others! I can not stop recommending Kevin Adam's book and look forward to reading his future works!

This book was life-changing for me! Kevin's rare honesty, vulnerability and transparency touched me deeply. I laughed, cried and at times felt convicted. Mostly though, I felt profoundly encouraged.

This book is a transparent snapshot of real life events — events which brought the author Kevin Adams, and his wife Holly, to their knees as they struggled to discover that God's provision goes well beyond meeting our needs. It led them to "wake up their faith" as they learned to settle for nothing less than total intimacy with God...that real faith and intimacy with God does not simply "seek God above all things, but INSTEAD of all things."

When I first began reading it, I could not put it down. I did not want it to end. Then, I found myself rereading multiple portions of it (especially the journal entries) and wrestling with them as I argued with God about the struggles in my own life. Those were the portions that bore witness to my soul - that in my own job/career/ministry loss, I needed to FULLY trust in God (not my own understanding, inclinations, wisdom, skills, etc.). It was a relief to read about real struggles without the surface Christianity that we have become so complacent with in this country. I was in tears as I read the portions about "waking up your faith." I need that right now myself...

The challenge to "wake up our faith" is a powerful one. This is a gripping story of transformation to which most of us can relate during these difficult times. This story spoke deeply to me as I am still reeling from a recent job and ministry loss. I am certain that it will speak just as deeply to you! I highly encourage you! Be warned though - this book will cause you to question the complacent faith that we become so comfortable with in our hurried lives...You will find yourself being challenged to become an "extravagant fool" in your own walk with God!

Approval is a basic human emotional need - especially the approval of our father. When this need isn't met in its proper way, we can't help but tackle any counterfeit that will pretend to love us well. But soon we all discover...counterfeits can't love.

In this gut-level honest book, Kevin Adams opens his heart to readers and invites them into his dance with the counterfeit- specifically, the corporate ladder. With a gifted pen, he tells his story - not just to tell it, but in hopes that others might avoid some of the pitfalls associated with blindly believing that love and affirmation can come anywhere but from Above.

Kevin's story is a testimony to the extravagant goodness of God and proof that when utter humiliation becomes true humility...all Heaven breaks lose.
